Panther is good-natured, earnest and remarkably free of resentment despite Apollo's treatment of him. He wants the opportunity to prove himself but continues working instead of abandoning the team when prejudice confines him to ball-boy duties.

His greatest personal motivation is his grandmother. Panther's family lives modestly, and his ambition to reach professional football is tied to earning enough money that she will no longer need to work. He even eats her notoriously unpleasant oatmeal without complaint.

Panther also respects hard work despite possessing exceptional natural talent. Apollo's own relentless training leaves a lasting impression on him, and Panther applies the same principle once he recognizes that speed alone will not make him a complete runner.

Panther specializes in the Zero-Gravity Run, a style built around extremely light footwork and minimal wasted movement. Instead of making violent changes of direction, he flows around defenders while preserving his speed.

His initial 4.5-second 40-yard dash already places him among the fastest runners encountered by Deimon. Continued training eventually lowers his time to 4.1 seconds, taking him beyond the 4.2-second barrier previously treated as the practical limit for the series' fastest runners.

Panther also uses a stiff-arm to keep defenders away while carrying the football in one hand. Early on, that technique leaves the ball vulnerable to being knocked loose, exposing his lack of experience against elite defenders. Apollo later teaches him more advanced technique, allowing Panther to combine refined movement with the natural speed that first distinguished him.

Panther travels with NASA to Japan but is not initially permitted to play. After seeing footage of Eyeshield 21, he becomes eager to race Deimon's mysterious runner, replacing his earlier interest in testing himself against Shin.

His situation also exposes Apollo's racial prejudice. Panther has the talent to contribute to NASA but is denied a fair opportunity, while teammates such as Homer and Watt recognize his ability and support him.

Panther eventually enters the game against Deimon and demonstrates speed capable of overwhelming Sena after Sena has already been pushed close to exhaustion. The two part on friendly terms and promise to race again under equal conditions. Panther later becomes one of Team USA's Pentagram stars at the Youth World Cup, where his improved speed makes him one of Japan's greatest challenges.

Sena Kobayakawa becomes Panther's friend and most important running rival. Rather than developing personal hostility, both want to determine who is faster under fair conditions.

Leonard Apollo initially refuses to give Panther a proper place on the field because of racial prejudice. Panther nevertheless admires Leonard Apollo's extraordinary work ethic. Their relationship changes as the coach finally acknowledges his ability and begins personally teaching him advanced running technique.

Homer Fitzgerald and Jeremy Watt support Panther while he is marginalized within NASA and recognize him as a genuine teammate.

Seijuro Shin is an elite Japanese runner Panther originally hopes to challenge before footage of Eyeshield 21 redirects his immediate attention toward Sena.

Panther's grandmother is the person behind his professional ambition: he wants football to provide enough money that she no longer has to work.
