Homer Fitzgerald

Homer is a dependable teammate who supports the people around him rather than sharing Coach Apollo's prejudices. Alongside Watt, he remains particularly close to Panther and helps him endure his treatment within the team.

On the field, Homer is comfortable relying on his extraordinary arm even though its accuracy is imperfect. His football identity is built around doing something few quarterbacks can physically reproduce.

Homer's defining ability is extreme throwing power. The Shuttle Pass sends the football on a towering trajectory over more than half the field, potentially turning a single throw into an enormous gain.

The technique has two important weaknesses. Homer needs time to complete his countdown and throwing motion, leaving him vulnerable to a blitz, and the pass is inaccurate enough that Watt must calculate its landing point rather than simply run a conventional route.

Homer's upper-body strength also makes him difficult to sack through an ordinary waist tackle. A defender can instead neutralize him by controlling his throwing arm and preventing the pass from being released.

Homer quarterbacks the NASA Aliens during their exhibition game against Deimon, giving the Devil Bats their first direct encounter with an American team. The Shuttle Pass immediately demonstrates a level of throwing power beyond the quarterbacks they have previously faced.

His friendship with Panther also places Homer on the humane side of the conflict within NASA. He and Watt support their teammate even while Apollo's discrimination restricts Panther's opportunities.

NASA's match with Deimon eventually forces Apollo to confront Panther's ability more directly, while Homer and the rest of the team continue to recognize Panther as a legitimate teammate.

Jeremy Watt is Homer's principal receiver and the player who calculates where his Shuttle Pass will land.

Patrick Spencer is one of Homer's closest teammates. Homer supports Patrick Spencer through the discriminatory treatment he receives from the team's coach.

Leonard Apollo coaches Homer and constructs NASA's offense around the team's unusual athletic weapons.
