Personality
Personality
Motsuo is intelligent, composed and exceptionally capable. His wealth could easily make him arrogant, and his earliest appearance plays with that expectation, but he proves to be remarkably sincere toward Bondo and Gachi.
He takes friendship extremely seriously. Motsuo is willing to use his family's resources to help his friends but does not treat money as a substitute for affection. His intelligence likewise tends to be used to support the group rather than establish superiority over them.
Motsuo is also academically driven. When his family circumstances threaten to separate him from his friends, his response demonstrates both the pressure created by his privileged upbringing and the importance he places on remaining with the people he cares about.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Motsuo has no supernatural powers, but he is an exceptional student with genius-level intelligence by the standards of his age group. He performs extremely well academically and can construct elaborate plans, puzzles and solutions with little difficulty.
His family's enormous wealth gives him access to technology and facilities far beyond those available to an ordinary elementary school student. He regularly treats extravagant equipment and spending as mundane parts of everyday life.
Motsuo's combination of intelligence and resources makes him the group's planner. Where Gachi can solve physical problems and Roboco can overwhelm them through absurd power, Motsuo frequently supplies preparation, information or technology.
Story Role
Story Role
Motsuo is introduced in the opening chapter as one of Bondo's friends and helps establish Bondo's desire for an OrderMaid. Motsuo already owns Meico, a modern, highly competent OrderMaid whose abilities represent everything Bondo initially expects from such a robot.
His friendship with Bondo and Gachi becomes one of the manga's most stable relationships. Numerous chapters place the three boys together at school, during games and on excursions, with Motsuo often supplying whatever extravagant resources a particular scenario requires.
His relationship with Meico also receives dedicated stories that explore the genuine affection beneath their master-and-OrderMaid arrangement. When his father's work requires the family to relocate to America, Motsuo initially distances himself from Bondo and Gachi because he cannot bear to tell them that he is leaving.
Relationships
Relationships
Bondo Taira is one of Motsuo's closest friends. Motsuo values their friendship enough to make major personal efforts to preserve the time they can spend together.
Gorilla Gachi is Motsuo's other best friend. The two differ enormously in wealth, appearance and academic ability but share a similarly intense loyalty to Bondo and each other.
Meico is Motsuo's OrderMaid. Although she serves him with the efficiency expected of an advanced OM, their relationship is based on genuine mutual affection rather than simple ownership.
Roboco enters Motsuo's life through Bondo. Her chaotic behavior frequently clashes with the standards represented by Meico, although Motsuo ultimately accepts her as part of his friend's household.
