Mizuki Asami

Mizuki is kind, open and confident. His years overseas leave him comfortable with an unconventional lifestyle, and he is much less inhibited about expressing romantic interest than several of the people around Aoba.

He is popular with girls but shows little interest in taking advantage of that popularity. Instead, he openly states that Aoba is the person he likes.

Mizuki is also restless when ordinary school-club activity fails to challenge him. Seishuu's mountaineering club operates below the level to which he is accustomed, so he frequently finds other opportunities to climb.

Mizuki is an accomplished climber whose experience comes from growing up around his internationally active mountaineer father. He is comfortable climbing structures that would be dangerous or intimidating to an ordinary student.

His ability substantially exceeds the normal level of Seishuu's mountaineering club. He can be seen scaling poles, buildings and other tall structures without the equipment normally associated with serious climbing.

His athletic background is distinct from the baseball abilities of most of the male characters around him, giving him a physical specialty in which even Seishuu's star players have little comparable experience.

Mizuki is first mentioned before arriving in Japan, then physically enters the story as he prepares to begin high school with Aoba. Because his father travels extensively, Mizuki chooses to spend his high-school years in Japan and stays with his Tsukishima relatives.

His presence introduces a direct romantic admirer for Aoba who is neither part of Seishuu's baseball rivalry nor reluctant to state his intentions. He consequently pays close attention to the other boys around her.

Over time, Mizuki becomes part of Seishuu's broader student cast while continuing his climbing activities. His outsider perspective also makes him quick to notice the unusual closeness between Aoba and Kou.

Isamu Asami is Mizuki's father and the mountaineer whose international lifestyle shapes his childhood and climbing ability.

Aoba Tsukishima is Mizuki's cousin and romantic interest. He openly states that Aoba Tsukishima is the girl he likes.

Ichiyou Tsukishima, Wakaba Tsukishima and Momiji Tsukishima are Mizuki's other maternal cousins.

Youko Tsukishima is Mizuki's aunt and the sister of his father.

Yuuhei Azuma is someone Mizuki views as a romantic rival for Aoba because of Yuuhei Azuma's interest in her.

Kou Kitamura also occupies a uniquely close place in Aoba's life, and Mizuki notices the difficult-to-define connection between Kou Kitamura and his cousin.
