Mitsuru

Mitsuru is hardworking, anxious and easily overwhelmed. A missing manuscript can send her from ordinary professional concern into despair within minutes, especially because Shigure has conditioned her to expect the worst from him around deadlines.

She is aware that her emotional reactions can become excessive and worries that she is unsuited to editorial work. Even so, she repeatedly returns, follows up on Shigure's assignments and continues trying to keep one of her most difficult authors on schedule.

Mitsuru is also empathetic. When she encounters someone whose anxiety and constant apologies resemble her own, she responds with understanding rather than irritation.

Mitsuru has no supernatural abilities. She works professionally as an editor and is responsible for obtaining Shigure's manuscripts and keeping his publishing commitments on schedule.

Her persistence is particularly important because Shigure deliberately makes the process difficult. He hides completed work, claims not to have written it or leaves when deadlines approach simply to watch her reaction.

Mitsuru first appears through Shigure's professional life, revealing that his apparent laziness coexists with an established writing career. Her deadline crises provide recurring comedy but also show how deliberately manipulative Shigure can be even in mundane situations.

Her role later intersects with the Souma family when she meets Ritsu Souma. Their similar anxiety produces immediate mutual understanding rather than the escalating confusion that often follows Ritsu's encounters with other people.

That connection develops beyond their first meeting, and Mitsuru and Ritsu eventually become a couple.

Shigure Souma is Mitsuru's assigned author and the principal source of her professional stress. Shigure Souma repeatedly tricks her about manuscripts because he finds her reactions entertaining.

Ritsu Souma immediately recognizes emotions in Mitsuru that closely resemble his own. Their sympathetic friendship eventually develops into a romantic relationship.

Tooru Honda encounters Mitsuru during her visits to Shigure's house and often treats her distress more seriously than Shigure does.
