Masahiro Takenaka

Takenaka is composed, intelligent and surprisingly conversational for a hardened revolutionary. He can discuss politics and personal history without the constant anger displayed by some of his comrades, and he approaches operational problems through analysis rather than emotion.

His revolutionary commitment is longstanding. Years spent moving between radical movements have made him cynical about romantic ideas of struggle, even though he has not abandoned his political convictions.

Takenaka is also pragmatic enough to recognize failure. Where Ibraha's hatred pushes him toward increasingly destructive decisions, Takenaka understands that sacrificing people after an operation has already collapsed accomplishes nothing useful.

Takenaka's principal strengths are strategic planning, interrogation and political experience. As a senior figure within the Protectors of the Islamic Front, he helps coordinate operations rather than functioning primarily as a frontline fighter.

He correctly determines the Lagoon Company's likely route and captures Rock, believing the stolen documents may be in his possession. His questioning of Rock demonstrates patience and an ability to obtain information without immediately resorting to uncontrolled violence.

Takenaka also understands clandestine organization and international militant networks. His years as a revolutionary give him practical knowledge of evasion, planning and the consequences of state pressure against underground groups.

Takenaka becomes involved when the Lagoon Company is hired to transport documents containing information about the Protectors of the Islamic Front's planned operation. He anticipates their movements and captures Rock while the rest of the crew attempts to complete the delivery.

His conversations with Rock reveal his history in Japanese radical politics and the worldview that led him into successive revolutionary struggles. Rock, another Japanese man living far from conventional Japanese society, becomes an unusual conversational counterpart.

The situation deteriorates as Chang's Triad moves to recover the information and the Lagoon Company attempts to escape. Takenaka ultimately recognizes that the operation has failed and refuses to support Ibraha's insistence on continuing a pointless pursuit. When Ibraha tries to force the issue, Takenaka shoots him rather than allow more men to be sacrificed.

Ibraha is Takenaka's partner and fellow leader within the Protectors of the Islamic Front. Although they share an organization, Masahiro Takenaka is far more pragmatic than Ibraha. Their disagreement ends when Takenaka kills Ibraha after he refuses to abandon the failed pursuit.

Rokuro Okajima is captured and interrogated by Takenaka during the operation. Their shared Japanese background allows Masahiro Takenaka and Rokuro Okajima to discuss political choices and the different paths that carried them outside ordinary Japanese society.

Bai Ji-Shin Chang is aligned against Takenaka's organization through the Triad's interest in obtaining the stolen operational documents. Bai Ji-Shin Chang's intervention contributes to the pressure that ultimately destroys the militants' plan.
