Mana Walker

Mana is affectionate, theatrical and emotionally complicated. To Allen Walker, he is a loving parent who gives an abandoned child a home and encourages him to face hardship without stopping. His background as a performer shapes the lessons Allen absorbs from him, including the smile Allen later uses to conceal distress.

Mana can also be unstable and deeply troubled. His behavior before meeting Allen reflects a man carrying psychological wounds and fragmented memories that the boy does not understand. The contrast between those difficulties and the tenderness he shows Allen becomes increasingly important as the series examines his past.

Mana is an accomplished travelling performer and clown. He teaches Allen performance skills and travels with him rather than possessing an Anti-Akuma weapon or serving openly as an Exorcist.

Mana's true history connects him directly to the Noah and the Millennium Earl. His nature and identity are therefore far more complicated than the ordinary human performer Allen believes he knew.

After his death, Allen calls his soul back through the Millennium Earl's Akuma-making mechanism. The resulting Akuma curses Allen's left eye, creating the pentacle-shaped scar and the supernatural vision that allows Allen to perceive souls trapped inside Akuma.

Mana's influence begins before the main narrative. He finds the abandoned boy later known as Allen Walker, adopts him and travels with him as a performer. Their relationship gives Allen both his surname and the personal philosophy he carries into his work as an Exorcist.

After Mana dies, the Millennium Earl approaches the grieving Allen and offers to restore him. Allen accepts without understanding the process, calling Mana's soul into an Akuma skeleton. The resurrected Mana curses Allen for turning him into an Akuma, and Allen's Innocence activates instinctively, destroying him. Mana's final expression of love leaves Allen traumatized and establishes his determination to save the souls imprisoned within Akuma.

The later manga radically expands Mana's history. Mana Walker is revealed to be Mana D. Campbell, connected to Nea D. Campbell and the existence of the Millennium Earl. The Earl's identity and Mana's fractured memories make Allen's childhood relationship with him central to the larger mystery of the Noah.

Allen Walker is Mana's adopted son. Mana gives him a family, teaches him to perform and encourages him to keep walking forward. Allen's attempt to bring Mana back creates the Akuma that curses his eye and is destroyed by his newly activated Innocence.

Nea D. Campbell is Mana's younger twin brother and a central figure in the hidden history behind Mana's identity and the Millennium Earl. Their past lies at the center of the conflict surrounding the Fourteenth Noah.

The Millennium Earl is inseparably connected to Mana's true history; later revelations establish that the identities Allen understood as Mana Walker and the Earl cannot be treated as unrelated individuals.
