Louis

Louis is proud, disciplined, charismatic, demanding, and intensely conscious of status. He expects excellence from himself and nearly the same level of commitment from everyone around him. In the drama club he performs through injuries and pressures other actors to continue working when they might prefer rest because he considers weakness something that must never be displayed publicly.

His arrogance is inseparable from insecurity. Louis has spent much of his life proving that a red deer can command carnivores rather than exist beneath them in society's food hierarchy. He uses posture, language, academic performance, acting skill, and social influence as weapons against the assumption that herbivores are inherently powerless.

This helps explain his early dislike of Legoshi. Louis sees a wolf with enormous natural strength trying to disappear into the background and interprets that as an insult: Legoshi possesses the physical authority Louis would give almost anything to have, yet refuses to use it. Their later respect develops only after both begin understanding what the other is actually fighting against.

Louis can be manipulative and controlling. He knows how other students perceive him and deliberately exploits that image when useful. He can motivate people through admiration, shame, intimidation, or personal charisma, characteristics that later allow him to command individuals well outside the protected environment of Cherryton.

At the same time, Louis possesses genuine compassion that he often disguises as pragmatism. His attachment to Haru, concern for Legoshi, and later bond with members of the Shishigumi repeatedly make him choose emotionally difficult actions that conflict with the persona of complete self-interest he tries to project.

Louis does not possess the physical power of a large carnivore. As a red deer, his advantages lie instead in agility, speed, endurance, antlers, and sharp awareness of body language. He understands that raw strength will rarely let him dominate carnivores and therefore relies heavily on psychological control.

His most developed talent is acting. Louis is the star of Cherryton's drama club and plays major roles including Adler. His stage presence, voice control, posture, and ability to inhabit a commanding persona contribute directly to the reputation that makes him a leading Beastar candidate.

Louis is also an effective leader. He can impose order on individuals who could physically overpower him, identify what motivates subordinates, and maintain authority through confidence. His later experiences in the Black Market demonstrate that these abilities work outside school hierarchies as well.

He becomes comfortable using firearms and threats when entering genuinely criminal environments. Louis is willing to exploit the fact that carnivores underestimate an herbivore carrying a weapon, and he displays enough nerve to confront animals who could kill him almost instantly at close range.

His greatest weapon remains psychological refusal. Louis repeatedly places himself in situations where showing fear would confirm the predatory hierarchy he hates, so he maintains eye contact, speaks authoritatively, and forces carnivores to respond to him as an individual rather than instinctively classifying him as prey.

Louis begins as Cherryton's most visible student leader and star actor. The murder of Tem threatens the drama club's carefully maintained mixture of carnivores and herbivores, but Louis insists that the club continue preparing its performances rather than allowing fear to define it.

His encounters with Legoshi quickly develop into tension. Louis recognizes the wolf's hidden strength and despises his attempts to appear harmless. He pushes Legoshi into situations where that strength becomes visible, partly because he wants proof that carnivores cannot simply step outside the power their bodies give them.

Haru introduces a more private conflict. Louis maintains a sexual relationship with her while knowing that his public future leaves little room for a socially controversial romance with an ordinary dwarf rabbit. His inability to choose her openly contrasts sharply with Legoshi's willingness to risk almost everything for the relationship.

The Shishigumi kidnapping brings that contradiction to a breaking point. Louis is prevented from handling the situation according to his own desires, while Legoshi charges directly into the Black Market. What follows radically separates Louis from Cherryton's protected social order.

Louis kills the Shishigumi's chief and subsequently becomes the leader of the very lion organization that had abducted Haru. Rather than being immediately eaten, he establishes authority over the surviving lions and reorganizes the gang around himself.

The official second-season material follows Louis as the head of the revived Shishigumi, expanding its influence in the Black Market while his classmates wonder why he has disappeared. His time among the lions exposes him directly to carnivore meat consumption, poverty, criminal power, and forms of loyalty much different from Cherryton's social hierarchy.

His bond with Ibuki becomes particularly important. The lion recognizes Louis' childhood experience of being sold as food and treats him with a combination of respect, concern, and paternal affection. The anime explicitly connects their similar histories and growing trust.

Louis eventually reunites with Legoshi during the investigation into Tem's murder. He initially refuses to return to the surface world, telling Legoshi to become the kind of hero Louis believes he himself cannot be. Their paths converge again during Legoshi's duel with Riz.

Louis leaves the Shishigumi to help Legoshi. Ibuki threatens to eat him unless Louis kills him, forcing a final confrontation in which Free intervenes. Louis later offers Legoshi his own foot voluntarily, allowing Legoshi to consume meat in a consensual act that gives him the strength to defeat Riz.

In the final portion of the story, Louis returns to conventional society, confronts his relationship with his adoptive father Ogma, and tries to define a future that is not simply the prestigious role chosen for him. Netflix's Final Season synopsis specifically follows Louis as he moves through new responsibilities while remaining tied to Legoshi's conflict with Melon.

Louis ultimately joins Legoshi in opposing Melon and uses his public influence to challenge the social divisions that helped produce the conflict. His final path retains elements of the corporate responsibility inherited from Ogma, but the person carrying that role has been fundamentally reshaped by Cherryton, Haru, the Shishigumi, and Legoshi.

Legoshi begins as a junior Louis finds infuriating. Legoshi possesses exactly the carnivore strength Louis lacks but deliberately minimizes it, while Louis has spent his life trying to project strength from an herbivore body. Over time, rivalry develops into deep trust, culminating in Louis voluntarily placing his own body in Legoshi's hands during the fight with Riz.

Haru is Louis' secret lover during their time at Cherryton. He cares genuinely for Haru, but his social ambitions and responsibilities prevent him from offering the future she deserves. Their relationship exposes the divide between his private emotional needs and the public identity he has built around becoming a Beastar.

Ogma is Louis' adoptive father and the head of the Horns Conglomerate. Ogma expects Louis to become a suitable heir and evaluates much of his life through succession and family reputation. Their relationship is emotionally distant, though Louis' later experiences force both to confront whether family can be reduced entirely to obligation.

Ibuki becomes one of Louis' closest companions during his time leading the Shishigumi. Despite being a lion who could physically overpower him, Ibuki develops genuine respect and affection for Louis. Their shared connection to the livestock trade gives Ibuki unusual insight into the fear beneath Louis' pride.

Free is another Shishigumi lion who serves under Louis. Free is rougher and less restrained than Ibuki but comes to recognize Louis as his boss rather than merely an herbivore occupying a carnivore organization.

Juno initially clashes with Louis because her ambition to become Beastar threatens the position toward which he has spent years working. Juno's confidence as a carnivore also challenges his assumptions about how carnivores and herbivores should use social power. Their later interactions develop into romantic attraction, although Louis' obligations and arranged future prevent the relationship from becoming a simple partnership.

Azuki is the red deer selected as Louis' socially appropriate partner. Their eventual marriage reflects the corporate and familial obligations attached to Louis' position rather than the emotionally intense relationships he previously experiences with Haru or Juno.

Kyuu and San are animals Louis knew during his childhood captivity in the livestock market. Their shared history predates his adoption by Ogma and preserves a connection to the identity Louis spends years trying to bury beneath wealth, education, and public prestige.

Melon becomes a major enemy whose mixed-species identity and manipulation of carnivore-herbivore tensions threaten both the Black Market and surface society. Louis' eventual alliance with Legoshi against Melon brings together the two worlds Louis has occupied throughout the series.
