Liao Diao He

河了貂

Story Role

Diao appears near the beginning of the series as a survivor of Black Hum Village rather than a soldier. She joins Xin and Zheng during the royal rebellion and provides local knowledge, improvisation and access to routes they would otherwise struggle to navigate.

Her presence establishes the trio that predates the large military cast. The official anime material continues to refer to Xin, Zheng and Diao as the original three companions who met during the struggle for Qin's throne.

After Zheng regains the capital and Xin enters the army, Diao temporarily loses a clear role in the story. Xin can move toward his dream through combat, while Diao has neither the strength nor training required to follow.

That frustration directly creates her strategist storyline. Instead of giving her a sudden combat ability, the manga sends her away to study, allowing her later return to represent acquired expertise.

When Diao joins the Fei Xin Force as strategist, the unit itself changes. Xin had previously relied heavily on individual ability and the tactical insight of Qiang Lei; a dedicated strategist allows the army to function more systematically.

Diao's arrival also separates command into complementary roles. Xin remains the central leader and emotional core, but he no longer needs to manage formations and logistics beyond his expertise.

The Coalition War demonstrates how important strategic coordination becomes as Qin's battles expand beyond isolated unit actions. Diao increasingly has to read engagements involving multiple armies rather than simply guide a few hundred soldiers.

Later campaigns repeatedly expose her to enemy strategists who possess more experience, forcing her to develop under battlefield pressure rather than relying only on lessons from school.

The expansion of the Fei Xin Force into thousands of soldiers magnifies every mistake. A poor decision can now kill hundreds, making Diao's role increasingly serious as Xin rises through the ranks.

Season 6 of the television anime continues to present Diao as the strategist of the Fei Xin Force during Qin's major campaign against Zhao, with the official anime character page still identifying her judgment as one of the group's central weapons.

Manga material beyond the currently widely adapted anime continues expanding the scale of the Fei Xin Force, requiring Diao to plan for an organization operating increasingly like a full army rather than the small independent unit she originally joined.

As Xin advances into general-level responsibility, Diao's own role necessarily broadens. Winning an isolated clash is no longer sufficient; she must account for entire wings, subordinate officers, supply conditions and coordination with neighboring Qin armies.
