Bi

Bi is earnest, responsible and deeply loyal to Zheng and Lord Changwen. He lacks the reckless confidence of Xin and tends to approach military problems through the orthodox principles he has been taught.

He is conscious of his own limitations. Encounters with commanders possessing extraordinary martial or strategic gifts can leave him shaken, but he generally responds by working harder rather than abandoning his responsibilities.

Bi also cares about ordinary soldiers. Early in his career, this makes him somewhat reluctant to expend infantry as aggressively as harsher commanders consider necessary, reflecting both his compassion and his relative lack of battlefield experience at the time.

Bi is a well-rounded conventional general. He understands formations, cavalry movement, fortifications and standard tactical principles, giving him a dependable foundation even when he lacks the specialized genius of commanders such as Biao Gong or Wang Jian.

He is competent with both glaive and sword and can lead charges personally. His martial ability is sufficient to fight ordinary enemy officers and participate directly in assaults against command positions.

Bi's greatest strength is consistency. He learns from repeated campaigns, steadily improving his leadership and tactical judgment until Qin trusts him with independent armies.

During the Western Zhao Invasion, Bi fights alongside Duanhe Yang at Ryouyou. After a severe logistical disaster leaves his forces in crisis, he continues fighting and ultimately helps Danto kill the Quanrong king Rozo.

Bi first appears during Jiao Cheng's rebellion as one of Lord Changwen's officers. He explains important circumstances surrounding Piao's death to Xin and accompanies the group attempting to restore Zheng to the throne.

He later serves as a thousand-man commander at Dakan Plains under Biao Gong, beginning a long progression through Qin's military ranks. He participates in campaigns at Bayou, Kankoku Pass and Sai before receiving larger independent responsibilities.

During the State of Ai rebellion, Bi commands troops supporting Zheng's faction against the rebel forces.

His most substantial campaign comes during the Western Zhao Invasion, when he joins Duanhe Yang's army at Ryouyou. Although enemy infiltration leads to the destruction of his army's food stores, Bi survives the resulting crisis and contributes directly to victory over the Quanrong.

During the later northern Zhao campaign, Bi's army is caught in Qin's disastrous retreat and he is taken prisoner. He endures forced labor before eventually being recovered by Qin forces.

Lord Changwen is Bi's original lord and mentor. Bi begins the story as one of his military subordinates and remains aligned with his political faction.

Zheng Ying is the king Bi supports from the earliest struggle for Qin's throne.

Xin becomes Bi's friend and battlefield comrade. Although Xin eventually surpasses him militarily, their relationship begins when both risk their lives during the royal rebellion.

Duanhe Yang becomes Bi's superior during the Ryouyou campaign, where their armies fight together against Zhao and the Quanrong.

Danto initially mocks Bi but later fights alongside him. Their combined attack brings down Rozo during the Battle of Ryouyou.

Rozo is the Quanrong king opposed by Bi's forces during the Western Zhao Invasion.
