Koutarou Bokuto

Bokuto is loud, friendly and highly expressive. He celebrates successful attacks enthusiastically and thrives on attention from teammates and spectators. Strong opponents excite him, and he readily treats younger players as potential practice partners.

His mood swings are his most obvious weakness. A blocked attack, dissatisfaction with a technique or another seemingly small problem can undermine his confidence. Keiji Akaashi and Fukuroudani know his habits well enough that restoring his rhythm becomes part of their normal match routine.

Bokuto can also be unexpectedly perceptive. His explanation to Kei Tsukishima about the moment when volleyball becomes genuinely fun has a lasting influence on the younger player.

Bokuto is one of Japan's top high-school aces. He combines power, jumping ability and stamina with a diverse attacking repertoire.

His straight shot is particularly dangerous. He also possesses sharp cross-court attacks and cut shots, while his experience allows him to use feints, wipes and rebounds when brute force is not the best option.

Bokuto contributes outside attacking as well, including receiving, blocking and emergency plays. During high school, his greatest limitation is consistency of mindset rather than a lack of volleyball technique.

Bokuto becomes prominent during the Tokyo training camps, where Fukuroudani repeatedly practices against Karasuno, Nekoma and other schools. He takes an immediate liking to Shouyou Hinata, calls him his disciple and teaches him attacking techniques.

Alongside Tetsurou Kuroo, Bokuto also pulls Tsukishima into extra practice and helps change the younger player's attitude toward volleyball.

At nationals, Bokuto and Fukuroudani pursue the championship. Bokuto comes to recognize how often his teammates have compensated for his emotional fluctuations and resolves to become an ace they can rely upon without special treatment. He later becomes a professional player for the MSBY Black Jackals and represents Japan.

Keiji Akaashi is Bokuto's setter, vice-captain and closest partner on court.

Tetsurou Kuroo is Bokuto's friend and frequent training partner.

Shouyou Hinata becomes Bokuto's self-declared disciple during the Tokyo training camp.

Kei Tsukishima is another younger player Bokuto encourages through extra practice.

Akinori Konoha is one of the experienced Fukuroudani teammates accustomed to compensating when Bokuto loses momentum.
