Kounosuke Jii

Jii is loyal, dependable and strongly protective of the Kuroba family. Although he assists in criminal jewel thefts, his motivations are tied more closely to personal devotion and the legacy of Kaitou Kid than to wealth.

He often behaves like an older adviser toward Kaito Kuroba, offering information and practical assistance while worrying about the dangers surrounding Kid's activities. His age does not prevent him from participating in elaborate schemes when necessary.

Jii can also be theatrical. His familiarity with stage magic and phantom-thief performance means that he understands the importance of deception, dramatic presentation and misdirection rather than treating Kid's operations as ordinary burglaries.

Jii is an accomplished magician with extensive knowledge of illusion, disguise and the equipment associated with Kaitou Kid. His experience allows him to assist with complicated thefts and prepare tools or information required for operations.

He is also capable of impersonation. Jii has enough experience with Kaitou Kid's methods to wear the costume and perform as the phantom thief himself, although his physical abilities do not match those of the younger Kaito Kuroba.

His greatest practical strength is experience. Having served the Kuroba family for years, Jii understands the tricks, mechanisms and planning behind Kid's seemingly impossible appearances and escapes.

Jii's history is primarily established through Magic Kaito, where he is closely associated with the Kuroba family. After Toichi Kuroba's disappearance, Jii eventually assumes the Kaitou Kid identity himself in an attempt to draw out the people responsible for his former master's fate. Kaito encounters him during one such theft and subsequently takes up his father's mantle.

Within Detective Conan, Jii usually remains behind the scenes during Kaitou Kid's confrontations with Conan Edogawa. His assistance helps explain how Kid obtains information, prepares disguises and executes operations requiring resources beyond what one person could easily manage.

Jii also appears directly in cases connected with Kid and in the spin-off The Culprit Hanzawa. His Detective Conan appearances preserve his role as the veteran assistant behind the younger phantom thief's activities.

Kaito Kuroba is the current Kaitou Kid and the person Jii assists most directly. Jii serves as an older adviser and accomplice, providing practical help with thefts while showing genuine concern for Kaito Kuroba's safety.

Conan Edogawa repeatedly interferes with Kaitou Kid's thefts. Jii consequently knows him as one of the most persistent obstacles to the phantom thief's plans, although their direct personal interaction is limited.
