Personality
Personality
Kinato is humble, earnest and acutely aware of his weaknesses. He does not enter adventuring under the impression that his healing background makes him exceptionally powerful; he knows that his physical ability and personal mana reserves are poor compared with experienced adventurers. What distinguishes him is his refusal to treat those limitations as a reason to abandon the life he wants.
That determination is accompanied by a strong instinct to help people. During his adventurer assessment, Kinato is tasked with demonstrating the usefulness of his unusual magic rather than simply defeating opponents. He approaches the assignment through the habits he developed at his family's clinic, looking for physical and magical problems he can solve.
Kinato can also be naïve and inexperienced outside Manutuka. He begins his journey with little practical knowledge of adventurer society, guild politics or combat, forcing him to learn from the more experienced people around him.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Kinato practices Seitai Magic, a specialized form of magic taught to him by his grandmother. Rather than generating large quantities of energy himself, he perceives and manipulates the mana already flowing through other people, creatures and objects. This makes his tiny personal mana reserve less restrictive than it initially appears.
His therapeutic techniques include Pelvic Realignment, Fascia Release and Warming Circulation Surge, applications developed through his work at the Manutuka Seitai Clinic. Relaxation channels Seitai Magic through whatever Kinato touches, while Flow Boost improves an ally's mana flow and allows him to function as a dedicated combat supporter.
Acceleration manipulates the flow of mana to accelerate a target's processes or movement. Super Acceleration is a more extreme application; Kinato can apply it to an object containing mana and turn that object into a high-speed projectile. His ability to perceive mana also lets him identify sources of energy that other people might overlook.
As Kinato gains combat experience, he continues finding increasingly aggressive applications for a discipline originally associated with healing and bodily adjustment, expanding Seitai Magic into a much broader support and battle system.
Story Role
Story Role
Kinato begins in Manutuka working at his family's Seitai clinic despite longing to become an adventurer. His opportunity arrives when fake adventurers abduct him and he encounters Jien, who has also been captured. When a dragon threatens them, Kinato applies Super Acceleration to a mana-filled massage ball and helps bring the creature down.
Impressed by the possibilities of Seitai Magic, Jien invites Kinato to join the Iron Fangs. Before he can properly begin, Kinato must qualify as an adventurer. His extremely poor conventional statistics prevent him from receiving the normal Bronze starting rank, so he undergoes an unusual practical assessment and earns a newly established Colorless badge.
Kinato subsequently begins taking missions with the Iron Fangs. His progression repeatedly places him in situations where direct combat ability alone is insufficient, requiring him to understand the mana around him and find unconventional ways to support stronger fighters.
Relationships
Relationships
Jien is the adventurer who recognizes Kinato's potential and invites him into the Iron Fangs. Rather than dismissing Seitai Magic as a minor healing discipline, Jien sees possibilities in the way Kinato manipulates mana and gives him an opportunity to develop those abilities.
Linae is Kinato's childhood friend from Manutuka and accompanies him when he leaves home. She knows him from before his adventuring career and remains one of his closest companions.
Kaminagi initially doubts whether Kinato belongs in the Iron Fangs and tests him during an early mission. Their relationship changes as she witnesses both his determination and the usefulness of his unconventional magic.
Hibiki handles Kinato's attempt to register as an adventurer and arranges the special assessment required after his unusual statistics prevent him from fitting the standard ranking system.
Kinato's Grandmother taught Kinato Seitai Magic and raised him within the Manutuka Seitai Clinic, providing the foundation for the techniques he later adapts to adventuring.
