Keiko Yukimura

Keiko is intelligent, responsible and strong-willed. She earns excellent grades, takes school seriously and refuses to be intimidated by Yusuke despite his reputation. When he behaves irresponsibly, she is one of the few people willing to confront him directly.

Her strictness masks considerable affection. Keiko recognizes qualities in Yusuke that many adults overlook and is deeply affected when he is hurt or disappears without explanation.

She is also courageous despite lacking supernatural combat abilities. When people she cares about are endangered, Keiko often acts rather than waiting for stronger characters to solve the problem.

Keiko is an ordinary human and possesses no established fighting techniques or supernatural powers.

Her strengths are practical rather than supernatural. She is academically capable, level-headed under pressure and unusually brave when confronted with spirits or demons despite having no means of fighting them on equal terms.

Exposure to Yusuke's work eventually gives her substantial familiarity with the existence of demons, Spirit World and spiritual energy.

Keiko becomes central to Yusuke's attempt to return to life after his initial death. His interactions with her while he is a spirit demonstrate how much she cares for him despite their frequent arguments.

After Yusuke becomes Spirit Detective, he initially attempts to keep Keiko separated from his dangerous assignments. Circumstances repeatedly undermine that plan, particularly as supernatural threats begin affecting people around him.

Keiko attends the Dark Tournament alongside Botan, Shizuru Kuwabara and Yukina, supporting Team Urameshi from the audience. Her relationship with Yusuke continues to develop as his responsibilities increasingly draw him away from an ordinary human life.

Before Yusuke leaves for Demon World, he promises Keiko that he will return within three years and asks her to wait for him. Their relationship is reaffirmed when he eventually returns.

Yusuke Urameshi is Keiko's childhood friend and romantic interest. Their relationship combines frequent arguments with deep mutual affection.

Botan becomes one of Keiko's closest connections to Yusuke's supernatural life and eventually explains much of what his Spirit Detective work involves.

Shizuru Kuwabara frequently accompanies Keiko during the Dark Tournament.

Yukina becomes Keiko's friend through her connection to Team Urameshi.

Kazuma Kuwabara is one of Yusuke's closest friends and another familiar presence in Keiko's life.

Atsuko Urameshi is Yusuke's mother and has known Keiko since her childhood.
