Katzo

Katzo is a working sailor who continues performing his duties during extremely dangerous weather. His characterization is limited by his brief appearance, and canon does not establish a detailed personal history or temperament.

After being rescued, he thanks the three passengers who saved him. The incident is principally used to reveal their behavior rather than to develop Katzo himself.

Katzo is an ordinary human crewman with no established Nen abilities or exceptional combat skills. His work aboard an ocean-going vessel implies the practical skills expected of a sailor.

He is nevertheless unable to protect himself when the storm tears material from the ship and throws him from the deck, requiring the immediate intervention of the Hunter candidates nearby.

Katzo appears aboard the ship taking prospective Hunter Exam candidates toward Dolle Harbor. Unknown to Gon, Kurapika and Leorio, the ship's captain is already evaluating whether they possess the qualities necessary to proceed toward the actual examination.

During a severe storm, Kurapika and Leorio begin confronting each other on deck. Katzo is suddenly struck or swept from the ship and falls overboard.

Gon immediately dives after him without considering his own safety. Kurapika and Leorio then grab Gon before he too can be lost, and the three combine their efforts to save Katzo. Their instantaneous cooperation impresses the captain and helps convince him that all three should pass his preliminary assessment.

Gon Freecss immediately risks his own life to catch Katzo when the sailor falls from the ship.

Kurapika and Leorio Paradinight abandon their argument and work together with Gon Freecss to rescue Katzo.

Captain employs Katzo as a member of his crew and observes how the three prospective Hunters respond to Katzo's accident.
