Kanichi Konishi

Kanichi is passionate about donburi but lacks confidence when confronted by stronger personalities. He becomes despondent when his research society is threatened and is easily intimidated by Ikumi Mito, particularly when she arrives with the authority to clear out his clubroom.

His mood changes immediately when someone expresses genuine interest in rice bowls. Sōma's enthusiasm for the society's accumulated recipes revives Kanichi's spirits and reveals how deeply he values the culinary subject he has chosen to study.

Kanichi also develops an almost parental enthusiasm toward Ikumi after she becomes associated with the club. His exaggerated reactions can embarrass her, but they reflect genuine happiness at seeing the Donburi Bowl Research Society active again.

Kanichi specializes in donburi. The series rarely shows him cooking directly, but his extensive notebook of rice-bowl concepts is good enough to attract Sōma's attention.

He assists Sōma while the latter develops a dish for his Shokugeki against Ikumi. Kanichi provides access to the society's research and acts as an early evaluator for Sōma's prototypes.

His knowledge helps Sōma refine the Chaliapin Steak Don. Kanichi's ability to recognize when the prototypes are still lacking demonstrates that his enthusiasm for donburi is supported by a meaningful understanding of the cuisine.

Kanichi is introduced when Sōma and Megumi Tadokoro visit the Donburi Bowl Research Society. They discover that Erina Nakiri's expansion plans have placed the clubroom under threat and that nearly all of Kanichi's members have abandoned the society.

When Ikumi arrives to enforce the closure, Sōma challenges her on the Don RS's behalf. He wagers his place at Tōtsuki against the club's survival and requires Ikumi to join the society if she loses.

Sōma defeats Ikumi, saving the Don RS and making her its newest member. Kanichi subsequently remains associated with the club as it rebuilds and later faces another threat during Central's purge.

Sōma Yukihira saves Kanichi's research society and becomes a trusted ally. Kanichi provides him with donburi research during preparation for his first Shokugeki.

Ikumi Mito initially terrifies Kanichi as the chef sent to shut down his club. After losing to Sōma, she joins the Don RS and becomes one of its most important members.

Megumi Tadokoro assists Sōma and Kanichi during the preparation for the match.

Erina Nakiri initially targets the Don RS as part of her efforts to acquire its facilities.

Mea Yanai later challenges the Don RS on Central's behalf, with Ikumi representing the society against her.
