Ikumi Mito

Ikumi is confident, competitive and intensely proud of her expertise with meat. Her upbringing within the Mito family initially leaves her convinced that premium ingredients are essential to superior cooking, and she looks down on approaches that seem cheap or unsophisticated.

Her aggressive exterior softens considerably around people she trusts. After spending more time with Sōma and the Don RS, she becomes supportive and dependable, though she remains easily embarrassed when teased about her feelings or the nickname "Nikumi."

Ikumi also possesses a strong sense of responsibility toward her family's culinary reputation. Rather than treating meat simply as an ingredient, she studies its characteristics in detail and expects herself to understand how every cut should be handled.

Ikumi specializes in meat preparation, particularly beef. Her knowledge covers cuts, fat distribution, temperature control and the physical characteristics that determine how meat should be cooked. She can handle high-quality ingredients with exceptional precision.

Her knife skills are highly developed, allowing her to trim and prepare meat while minimizing unnecessary damage. She also possesses enough physical strength to handle large cuts and heavy cooking equipment efficiently.

Her early Shokugeki against Sōma highlights both her strengths and her initial limitation: technically exceptional meat alone does not guarantee that a complete dish fulfills its intended purpose. She subsequently broadens her perspective and develops greater sensitivity to the interaction between meat and the rest of a dish.

Ikumi is introduced as Erina's representative in the dispute over the Donburi Research Society. She challenges Sōma to a Shokugeki in which the future of the society is placed at stake.

Sōma defeats her by designing his Chaliapin Steak Don around the essential qualities of donburi rather than simply presenting the more luxurious meat. Because of the wager, Ikumi joins the Don RS and gradually becomes one of Sōma's allies.

She participates in the Autumn Elections, where her meat expertise makes her a formidable contestant. Although she does not become one of the competition's central finalists, she remains active in school life and assists her friends during later conflicts.

Sōma Yukihira begins as Ikumi's Shokugeki opponent and becomes a close friend and culinary influence. She develops an obvious attraction toward him, though Sōma remains largely oblivious.

Erina Nakiri initially commands Ikumi's loyalty and uses her in the attempt to eliminate the Don RS. Their association weakens after Ikumi's defeat.

Kanichi Konishi is the president of the Don RS and becomes Ikumi's clubmate after her Shokugeki with Sōma.

Megumi Tadokoro, Yūki Yoshino and Ryōko Sakaki become part of the wider circle of students with whom Ikumi socializes.
