Personality
Personality
Kamishimoemon is stubborn, blunt and physically fearless. He refuses to submit to Fudousawa even when resistance makes life considerably harder for himself and his family.
His personality closely resembles Sanosuke's. Both men are quick to argue, comfortable settling disagreements physically and unwilling to flatter authority. Their similarities make recognition possible but also ensure that they clash almost immediately.
Kamishimoemon is nevertheless deeply committed to his family and community. His refusal to abandon the village is not simply personal pride; he is one of the few people preventing Fudousawa from exercising complete control over local residents.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Kamishimoemon is an exceptionally capable brawler despite living as a farmer rather than a professional martial artist. He fights primarily with his fists and possesses enough strength to stand against the men Fudousawa sends to intimidate the village.
His physical toughness and straightforward fighting method strongly resemble Sanosuke's own abilities. The resemblance reinforces how much of Sanosuke's natural temperament and constitution comes from his family rather than his years with the Sekihoutai.
Kamishimoemon has no named martial-arts school or supernatural technique. His effectiveness comes from strength, experience, courage and a willingness to keep fighting despite unfavorable numbers.
Story Role
Story Role
Kamishimoemon appears when Sanosuke returns to Shinshū after years away from home. Sanosuke discovers that Fudousawa is attempting to dominate the region and that his father is the principal local obstacle preventing him from doing so.
Their reunion is deliberately understated. Rather than immediately settling into a sentimental family reconciliation, father and son recognize in one another the same abrasive temperament and willingness to fight.
Sanosuke ultimately takes on Fudousawa's forces himself, defeating the yakuza's large group of fighters and protecting the village. He does not permanently return to the household afterward, but his visit allows him to reconnect with the family he left behind before continuing his journey.
Relationships
Relationships
Sanosuke Sagara is Kamishimoemon's eldest son. Their similar personalities create immediate friction, but the resemblance also makes their family connection unmistakable.
Uki Higashidani is Kamishimoemon's daughter and shares much of the family's forceful temperament.
Outa Higashidani is Kamishimoemon's younger son. He is far more timid than either his father or Sanosuke at the time Sanosuke returns home.
Naname Higashidani is Kamishimoemon's wife. She dies from illness several years before Sanosuke's return, leaving Kamishimoemon to continue raising Uki and Outa.
Fudousawa is Kamishimoemon's principal enemy in the village. Kamishimoemon repeatedly refuses to submit to the yakuza boss's attempts to seize local control.
