Kagura Souma

Kagura is affectionate, energetic and emotionally intense. Her gentle everyday manner can turn abruptly into destructive violence, especially when Kyou resists her attempts at affection.

She genuinely cares about other people and can be surprisingly perceptive once she stops focusing on her own romantic hopes. Her friendship with Tooru develops despite their apparent position as rivals for Kyou's attention.

Kagura also carries considerable shame about the motivations behind her childhood behavior. That guilt helps explain why she clings so fiercely to the idea that her feelings for Kyou must be pure and permanent.

As the Boar, Kagura transforms into a boar when the Zodiac curse is triggered. Her animal spirit is reflected comedically in her tendency to charge forward without restraint.

Kagura is extraordinarily strong and has martial-arts experience from training at Kazuma Souma's dojo. She can send Kyou flying through walls or furniture during emotional outbursts, though these feats are often presented with exaggerated comedy.

Her strength is accompanied by considerable determination. Once Kagura decides on a course of action, physically or emotionally, she is difficult to stop.

Kagura arrives at Shigure's house as an immediate complication for Kyou, loudly presenting herself as his future bride. Her introduction also demonstrates that the Zodiac members have longstanding relationships with one another that predate Tooru's arrival.

Her deeper material examines why she attached herself to the Cat in childhood. Kyou's position beneath the other Zodiac members offered Kagura an uncomfortable source of reassurance when she herself resented being cursed.

Kagura eventually admits that her first friendship with Kyou was motivated partly by pity and by the relief of seeing someone whose situation seemed worse than hers. Facing that truth allows her to acknowledge that her later love became genuine while also accepting that Kyou does not return it.

Tooru Honda initially appears to be Kagura's romantic rival, but Kagura comes to recognize the sincerity of Tooru Honda's concern for Kyou.

Isuzu Souma lives with Kagura's family after losing her own stable home and is treated as a foster sister.

Ritsu Souma is another Zodiac member with whom Kagura maintains a friendly relationship.

Kazuma Souma knows Kagura through his dojo and her long association with Kyou.
