Jun Tao

Jun is introduced as calm, severe and deeply committed to the Tao family's teachings. She has been raised to regard spirits and jiangshi as possessions whose purpose is to obey their masters, and she initially sees nothing wrong with suppressing Pyron's independent will through her talismans.

Her composure contrasts with Ren's more explosive temperament. Jun tends to assess situations carefully and speaks with greater restraint, but her loyalty to her younger brother is strong enough to draw her directly into his conflicts.

Her beliefs change after witnessing Pyron regain his consciousness. Jun accepts that spirits possess hearts and desires of their own, and from then on her partnership with him becomes voluntary rather than enforced. This development also reflects her growing rejection of the cruelty that has shaped the Tao family.

Jun is a trained dàoshì who practices corpse manipulation through Jufu talismans. By attaching her paper charms to a corpse, she can issue commands and force the body to move according to her instructions. Her principal jiangshi is Lee Pyron, whose extraordinary martial-arts ability makes him far more dangerous than an ordinary reanimated corpse.

Her early fighting style depends on directing Pyron rather than personally engaging an opponent. Because his body retains the physical techniques developed during his lifetime, Jun can exploit his speed, strength and Dao-Dan-Do martial arts while controlling his movements remotely.

After reconciling with Pyron, Jun stops treating him as a puppet and instead develops a genuine shaman-and-spirit partnership with him. His body is later enhanced with a piston mechanism in his arm, greatly increasing the force of his punches.

Jun's shamanic strength grows substantially after the original Shaman Fight. In later material she gains access to one of the Tao family's Four Perils, greatly expanding the level of spirits she can command.

Jun travels to Tokyo after Ren fails to take Amidamaru from Yoh. She lures Yoh and Manta Oyamada into an encounter centered around Pyron, intending to defeat Yoh and secure Amidamaru for her brother.

Yoh's refusal to treat spirits as property directly challenges Jun's upbringing. When Pyron's own emotions begin interfering with her control, Yoh destroys the talisman suppressing his will. The confrontation leaves Jun with a radically different understanding of the relationship between shamans and spirits.

Jun subsequently becomes an important ally within the wider Tao-Asakura circle. She supports Ren while gradually distancing herself from the violent ideology represented by their father, En Tao.

During the later stages of the Shaman Fight, Jun and Tamao defend Redseb and Seyrarm from the Hana-Gumi. She remains involved with the Tao family after the tournament and later becomes vice-president of Ren's Leidi Group.

Ren Tao is Jun's younger brother. She is highly protective of him and initially supports his ambition according to the expectations imposed by their family, though both siblings gradually reject the cruelty with which they were raised.

Lee Pyron is Jun's jiangshi and primary spirit partner. She initially controls him with Jufu talismans, but after recognizing that he possesses his own will, she allows him to remain beside her by choice.

Yoh Asakura defeats Jun's approach to spirit control both physically and philosophically. His respect for spirits helps convince her that they cannot simply be treated as objects.

En Tao is Jun's father and the authoritarian head of the Tao household during her upbringing. His teachings shape her initial worldview before she begins questioning the family's methods.

Ran Tao is Jun's mother and a member of the Tao family.

Chin Tao is Jun's grandfather and another powerful shaman of the Tao lineage.
