Jumbo Ozaki

As a child, Jumbo is boastful and prone to provoking classmates. He mocks Akane's claims about her father's rakugo, contributing to a schoolyard dispute that requires their parents and teacher to intervene.

By high school, he is friendlier, more respectful and strongly supportive of Akane. He speaks on her behalf without treating her ambition as a novelty, showing that he recognizes both the work she has invested and the seriousness of professional performance.

Jumbo has no established rakugo training or special abilities. His most useful quality is his direct understanding of Akane's character and history.

Because he knew her before she entered Shiguma's school, he can explain that her commitment is longstanding rather than an impulsive career choice. His candid intervention influences how her teacher approaches the subject.

Jumbo first appears in the childhood sequence that introduces Akane's admiration for her father. Their argument leads Shinta to explain the situation calmly and reinforces how passionately Akane defends his art.

He returns during Akane's high-school career counseling. When Machiko doubts the practicality of becoming a rakugoka, Jumbo encourages her to see Akane perform before judging the choice. His recommendation helps turn the teacher into an ally.

Akane Osaki is Jumbo's childhood classmate and friend. Although he teased her when they were younger, he later becomes a reliable supporter of her rakugo career.
