Ikkyu Hosakawa

Ikkyu is cocky, competitive and highly expressive, with a confidence that resembles Monta's more than the colder personalities of Shinryuuji's other stars. He frequently emphasizes his own genius and aerial superiority.

He greatly admires Agon Kongo and is one of the few teammates who genuinely enjoys playing alongside him rather than being intimidated by his temperament. Agon, in return, recognizes Ikkyu as a player with genuine talent.

Ikkyu's pride makes direct challenges especially effective at motivating him. He wants to prove that his reputation as Kanto's premier cornerback is deserved.

Ikkyu can run the 40-yard dash backwards in 4.9 seconds, an extraordinary ability for a defensive back. Running backward lets him watch a receiver and the developing play without immediately turning his body away from the line of scrimmage.

He combines that mobility with excellent jumping and catching ability. On defense, these skills make him dangerous when contesting passes; on offense, they transfer naturally to his role as a split end.

His confidence in aerial contests is so strong that he claims nobody can defeat him in the air. His athleticism makes that boast credible against most high-school receivers.

Ikkyu is introduced as one of Shinryuuji's major young talents and reinforces the depth separating the Nagas from ordinary teams. Even beyond the Kongo brothers, Shinryuuji fields specialists considered among the best in Kanto at their positions.

His matchup with Monta becomes one of the key individual contests when Deimon faces Shinryuuji. Monta must overcome a defender specifically equipped to follow receivers and challenge them at the catch point.

Deimon's comeback eventually forces Ikkyu and the rest of Shinryuuji into a close game despite the Nagas' overwhelming reputation. The loss ends Shinryuuji's long run of dominance and leaves Ikkyu among the younger players responsible for its future.

Agon Kongo is the teammate Ikkyu admires most. Agon Kongo also recognizes Ikkyu as a genuine talent, a distinction few Shinryuuji players receive from him.

Unsui Kongo quarterbacks the offense in which Ikkyu plays split end and helps coordinate the team around its collection of exceptional athletes.

Tarou Raimon becomes Ikkyu's principal receiving rival when Shinryuuji faces Deimon, turning their contest into a direct test of catching and aerial control.

Seijuro Shin provides an earlier benchmark for Ikkyu's confidence. Their encounter demonstrates that being Kanto's best cornerback does not automatically make Ikkyu superior to every elite player.
