Hoshi Sandek

Sandek is kind, diligent, calm, and highly responsible. His position gives him enormous authority, but he is willing to personally care for inexperienced Choujin rather than treating them solely as potential weapons or security problems.

He takes Yamato Mori's responsibility to cultivate "good Choujin" seriously. When dealing with Tokio and Ely, he focuses not simply on their powers but on whether they can develop a reason to use those powers responsibly.

Sandek is also decisive in combat. His gentleness outside battle does not translate into hesitation when civilians or Yamato Mori are threatened.

Sandek manipulates gravity, allowing him to levitate himself, move people and enormous objects, fly at high speed, restrain targets, and create gravitational barriers that repel incoming attacks.

Sputnik gathers vast quantities of rubble into an enormous mass and launches it as a high-speed projectile. His mastery extends well beyond straightforward telekinesis, allowing him to control the direction and intensity of gravitational forces across a battlefield.

His most advanced technique, Integral Cosmos, momentarily expands space-time to produce a hyper-microscopic cosmic explosion within a controlled space. The attack can be directed specifically against chosen targets, demonstrating the precision as well as the scale of Sandek's power.

Sandek first appears when Chandra threatens Ely following the airplane incident. His intervention immediately establishes the level of power available to experienced Choujin: he levitates debris and vehicles against Chandra and forces the Smoke Choujin to retreat.

He brings Ely into Yamato Mori and later becomes involved in Tokio's introduction to the organization. Along with Tsukiko Mado and other senior personnel, Sandek helps maintain the system through which Choujin are registered, trained, and deployed as Keepers.

Sandek's history becomes more personal when the conflict exposes the actions of his younger brother, Batista. Their opposing paths connect Yamato Mori's present struggle to earlier failures within the organization and to the spread of Choujin-producing drugs.

During the larger battles surrounding the Tower of Mourning, Sandek demonstrates why he is regarded as one of Yamato's premier fighters, using gravity manipulation and Integral Cosmos against opponents who would overwhelm ordinary Keepers.

Ely Otta first meets Sandek when he saves her from Chandra. Sandek takes Ely Otta to Yamato Mori and helps provide the structure through which she learns to live as a Choujin.

Tokio Kurohara comes under Sandek's supervision after entering Yamato Mori. Sandek encourages Tokio Kurohara to think seriously about what he wants to accomplish with his abilities.

Chandra Hume is a powerful adversary whom Sandek confronts after the airplane incident. Chandra Hume recognizes Sandek as a dangerous opponent and retreats from their confrontation.

Tsukiko Mado stands above Sandek within Yamato Mori's leadership. Sandek serves as one of Tsukiko Mado's most important senior operatives.

Batista Hoshi is Sandek's younger brother. Their lives diverge dramatically, with Batista eventually becoming an enemy of the organization Sandek protects.
