Horiuchi Hironari

Hironari is responsible, patient and considerate toward Yūichi. He reminds the younger boy to return home before their adoptive parents worry and calmly explains unfamiliar aspects of Soul Society to Chad.

His attitude shows that the household’s family roles are sincere despite the absence of biological ties.

Hironari has no demonstrated spiritual abilities or combat training. He is an ordinary Soul living in Rukongai.

His knowledge of Rukongai’s allocation system allows him to explain why deceased relatives are rarely reunited automatically after reaching Soul Society.

Hironari appears when Yūichi Shibata reunites with Chad outside the Seireitei. Chad is initially confused that the boys call each other brothers despite having different surnames.

Hironari explains that Souls are assigned to districts according to when they arrive, not placed with their living families. Residents therefore form new communal households with unrelated people from different places and historical periods.

Yūichi Shibata is Hironari’s adoptive younger brother. Their unnamed adoptive parents complete the communal Rukongai family.

Yasutora Sado meets Hironari while keeping his promise to visit Yūichi in Soul Society. Hironari helps him understand why Yūichi has found a new family but not his biological mother.
