Harufumi Mogi

Mogi is confident, blunt and difficult to embarrass. He speaks directly about his suspicions and observations without making much effort to soften them for the people around him, fitting the hard-boiled image suggested by his clothing and mannerisms.

He is also competitive. Being invited to a gathering containing several distinguished detectives gives him an opportunity to test himself against people with similarly formidable reputations, and he participates readily in the deductions surrounding the manor's mysteries.

Despite the theatrical noir presentation, Mogi is a legitimate professional investigator. He remains attentive to evidence and does not simply rely on appearances or bravado when a genuine case develops.

Mogi is an experienced private detective with strong observational and deductive skills. His reputation is significant enough for him to be invited alongside other prominent investigators to the Twilight Manor gathering.

He can analyze suspicious circumstances quickly and contributes to the collective investigation once the detectives realize that their meeting has become dangerous. The case deliberately places several accomplished investigators together, so Mogi's reasoning operates alongside that of Furuyo Senma, Ikumi Soda, Shukuzen Ogami and Kogoro Mouri.

Mogi is also comfortable acting independently, reflecting his profession as a private investigator rather than a police officer working within a formal command structure.

Mogi's principal canonical appearance occurs during the Twilight Manor case. He arrives at the isolated mansion after receiving an invitation to a gathering of famous detectives, with the hosts promising a mystery concerning treasure supposedly left behind by Renya Karasuma.

The gathering includes Kogoro Mouri, Furuyo Senma, Ikumi Soda, Shukuzen Ogami and Saguru Hakuba, while Conan Edogawa also becomes involved. What begins as an eccentric contest between detectives develops into a genuine investigation when the participants appear to be placed in mortal danger.

The apparent attacks and deaths are ultimately part of a larger deception surrounding the manor and its hidden treasure. Mogi survives the gathering and contributes to the deductions that expose the truth behind the events.

Mogi later appears in the parody spin-off The Culprit Hanzawa, where his established detective persona is used for comedy alongside other investigators.

Renya Karasuma has no direct established relationship with Mogi, but the mystery surrounding Renya Karasuma's former Twilight Manor is what draws him into his major case.

Furuyo Senma, Ikumi Soda, Shukuzen Ogami and Saguru Hakuba are fellow detectives invited to the same gathering. Mogi treats them as professional peers and participates with them in investigating the manor.

Kogoro Mouri is another supposed participant in the gathering, although Kaitou Kid is impersonating Kogoro during much of the case.

Conan Edogawa accompanies the group and contributes substantially to unraveling the mystery despite appearing to Mogi and the other adults to be an elementary-school child.
