Hajime Damemaru

Damemaru is generally polite, calm and cooperative even when circumstances around him are grotesque. His manner can make him seem more ordinary than his abilities suggest, although the others quickly learn that accepting his explanations at face value is unwise.

He is intensely interested in information and technology. Damemaru takes opportunities to access computer systems and acquire data, and his curiosity about subjects such as Zolar becomes one of his reasons for travelling with Sanko.

His insistence that he is sixteen becomes a recurring point of suspicion. Shimada Death's ability to determine age fails completely on him.

Damemaru possesses regenerative immortality. He can recover after injuries that should be unquestionably fatal, including extensive destruction of his body. More serious damage simply requires longer regeneration.

Repeated exposure can also make him resistant to hazards that previously harmed or killed him, allowing his body to adapt to extreme environments.

Damemaru can influence another person's mind through sustained eye contact, causing abnormal behavior. He is also technologically proficient and uses Naghul'n's specialized appendages to hack systems.

Damemaru first appears as another fugitive connected to the Photosfere. Sanko, Avakian and Shimada encounter him under circumstances that reveal just how difficult he is to keep dead.

His mental ability initially makes him dangerous to Zaha Sanko, but the group eventually escapes the Lighthead facility together. Damemaru proposes an alliance because they share a powerful enemy.

He becomes the fourth member of the group branded the Hateful Four and travels aboard Moja. Later journeys into Darkness and encounters with ancient phenomena increasingly call Damemaru's claim of being an ordinary sixteen-year-old human into question.

Naghul'n is Damemaru's Package and lifelong companion. Their relationship predates Naghul'n's current Package form, which Damemaru created after saving the mysterious creature long ago.

Zaha Sanko begins as an opponent affected by Damemaru's mental ability before accepting him as a travelling companion.

Shimada Death is fascinated by Damemaru's immortality and discovers that his age cannot be read normally.

Avakian initially treats Damemaru with suspicion but works alongside him during their escape and later travels.

Moja becomes Damemaru's home and transportation after he joins the group.
