Avakian

Avakian is protective, practical and easily exasperated by Sanko's recklessness. He tries to be the sensible member of the group, although his own impulsiveness and temper mean that he is not always as rational as he believes.

His strongest concern is Sanko's safety. Avakian becomes frantic when the boy is seriously endangered and willingly puts himself at risk to protect him. He has cared for Sanko since childhood, giving their relationship the character of a guardian and younger dependent rather than an owner carrying equipment.

Avakian is particularly suspicious of Shimada Death. Shimada's casual attitude toward danger irritates him, although Avakian privately recognizes how valuable the God of Death can be to the group.

Avakian can collapse his limbs and spine into a compact Package form worn on Sanko's back. When unfolded, he possesses a full skeletal humanoid body protected by Flesh of Darkness.

He can manipulate Dark Flesh to alter his body and imitate physical features, including reproducing another person's hand to bypass biometric security. He also stores equipment within his body and supplies Sanko with the components used to create his axe.

Avakian can breathe fire, survives conditions that would kill ordinary spacelings and has enough technical knowledge to hack computer systems.

Avakian begins the manga separated from Sanko after the Kahiya's captain takes him as loot. Once free, he locates the frozen Sanko, warms him and helps him reclaim his equipment before the pair escape.

He accompanies Sanko into Darkness, where they trade collected bones with Misetani Box for the Dark Core needed to complete Moja. From there, Avakian remains at the center of the crew's travels.

The addition of Shimada and Hajime Damemaru expands Avakian's role from Sanko's sole companion to the most openly cautious member of the Hateful Four.

Zaha Sanko is Avakian's longtime companion and the person he has protected since childhood. Their bond resembles family despite Avakian technically being Sanko's Package.

Shimada Death frequently irritates Avakian with his irresponsibility and appetite for dangerous situations.

Hajime Damemaru initially earns Avakian's suspicion, though the two eventually cooperate as members of the same travelling group.

Moja is the group's ship and another sentient companion with whom Avakian develops a friendly working relationship.

Misetani Box regularly conducts business with Avakian, who is not nearly as immune to her questionable deals as he would like to think.
