Gonzales

Gonzales is an elderly resident shaped by years of hardship in the valley. He retains a strong attachment to Milos and its history despite the poverty imposed on its displaced inhabitants.

The film gives him less individual development than its principal Milosian characters, but his presence provides an older civilian perspective on the political conflict.

Gonzales possesses no established alchemical or supernatural abilities.

He is a civilian rather than a frontline combatant. His importance comes from his knowledge of Milos, the valley community and the history surrounding Table City.

Gonzales appears among the Milosians living at the bottom of the trench surrounding Table City. Through characters such as him, the Elric brothers see the conditions produced by the struggle between Amestris, Creta and the displaced Milosian population.

His presence reinforces the Black Bats' claim that Table City was once the Hill of Milos and that the people living below are seeking to recover a homeland taken from them.

When the geothermal conflict threatens the valley, Gonzales becomes one of the civilians whose survival depends on the efforts to prevent the settlement from being destroyed.

Julia Crichton fights for the restoration of the Milosian homeland to which Gonzales belongs.

Miranda commands the Black Bats, whose rebellion is intended to reclaim Table City for people such as Gonzales.

Alphonse Elric spends time among the residents of the valley and comes to understand their circumstances rather than treating the conflict solely as a military dispute.

Edward Elric likewise becomes involved in protecting Milos as the struggle over the Sanguine Star escalates.
