Miranda

Miranda is determined, pragmatic and fiercely committed to Milosian independence. Years of occupation and poverty have convinced her that reclaiming Table City requires more than passive resistance.

She is willing to pursue dangerous sources of power if they offer Milos a realistic chance of liberation. This makes her goals understandable while putting her methods into conflict with the Elrics' knowledge of what Philosopher's Stones require.

Miranda also functions as a military leader rather than merely an ideologue. The Black Bats trust her to organize operations, maintain their hidden base and coordinate attacks against stronger occupying forces.

Miranda is an experienced resistance commander and fighter. She directs the Black Bats' armed operations and is familiar with the underground routes and terrain surrounding Table City.

She has no established alchemical abilities comparable to those of Julia or the Elric brothers. Her effectiveness comes from leadership, planning and command of the rebel organization.

The Black Bats also make use of gliding equipment and knowledge of the valley's vertical geography to move through terrain difficult for conventional forces to control.

Miranda leads the Black Bats in their attempt to rescue Julia and reclaim Milos. When Alphonse reaches their base, she explains the history of Table City and the displacement that forced the Milosians into the valley.

She reveals that the rebels hope to obtain the Sanguine Star and use the geothermal power beneath the city as part of their liberation effort.

As Amestrian, Cretan and Milosian interests collide, Miranda continues directing the resistance while Julia becomes increasingly central to the struggle over the Stone and the future of the valley.

Julia Crichton is one of the Black Bats' most important members and shares Miranda's desire to restore Milos.

Edward Elric initially approaches the conflict as an outsider suspicious of the rebels' interest in a Philosopher's Stone.

Alphonse Elric spends substantial time among the Black Bats and develops a closer understanding of their reasons for fighting.

Herschel commands the Cretan forces threatening the valley and is therefore one of Miranda's principal military enemies.

Atlas pursues the Sanguine Star for his own purposes, putting him in conflict with the Black Bats as well.
