Gondayuu Yamabushi

Yamabushi is mature, composed and respectful. Shinryuuji's long record of dominance does not make him dismissive of opponents, and he takes powerful players seriously rather than assuming his school's reputation guarantees victory.

His attitude toward Kurita is particularly respectful. Yamabushi recognizes the Deimon center's extraordinary physical potential and treats their confrontation as a legitimate contest between linemen.

As one of Shinryuuji's seniors, he also accepts responsibility for the generation following him rather than attempting to dominate the team indefinitely.

Yamabushi is a highly accomplished lineman whose value comes from combining power, speed and technique. Shinryuuji's coaching staff considers him more technically skilled than Kurita, close enough to compete with him in strength and faster in open movement.

He plays at the center of Shinryuuji's offensive line and also contributes defensively. His experience allows him to apply strength efficiently instead of depending only on body mass.

His ability is significant enough that he is one of the rare Shinryuuji students admitted through the school's sports recommendation route.

Yamabushi represents the established quality of Shinryuuji's line when Deimon finally faces the school that has dominated Kanto football for years. While much of Shinryuuji's attention centers on the Kongo brothers and Ikkyu, Yamabushi gives the Nagas an elite interior presence.

His matchup with Kurita provides a technical test for Deimon's center. Kurita possesses extraordinary strength, but must contend with an opponent who has accumulated more refined line skills.

Near the end of Deimon's game against Shinryuuji, Kurita's final power drive overwhelms Yamabushi and two other Nagas as Deimon completes its comeback. With his final high-school season concluded, Yamabushi entrusts Shinryuuji's future to the younger generation.

Ryokan Kurita is Yamabushi's principal positional opponent during Shinryuuji's game against Deimon. Yamabushi respects Ryokan Kurita's exceptional strength rather than dismissing him.

Unsui Kongo is one of Shinryuuji's younger leaders and eventually receives responsibility for carrying the team forward.

Ikkyu Hosakawa is another younger Shinryuuji player whom Yamabushi regards as part of the school's future.

Doujirou Tenma entered Shinryuuji through the same unusual sports-recommendation route as Yamabushi.
