Gasback is confident, theatrical and obsessed with the craft of stealing. He prefers spectacular targets and regards an ambitious robbery as an accomplishment in itself.

He also follows a personal code. Gasback despises betrayal and values completing his own revenge through theft rather than simply murdering everyone who wronged him.

His self-image as a principled outlaw blinds him to the suffering created by his crimes. That contradiction becomes particularly important when he is confronted by someone whose life was damaged by the consequences he left behind.

Gasback is an experienced gunman and robber with considerable physical strength. His imposing size does not prevent him from moving effectively in a firefight, and he commands heavily armed followers during his assault on Macca City.

He is also an accomplished planner. Rather than merely raiding Macca City's vaults, he designs an operation around stealing the city's Plant itself.

Gasback uses specialized weapons and equipment, including electrical technology capable of threatening Vash during their final confrontation.

Gasback's betrayal by his original partners sets the film's conflict in motion. Vash intervenes during the failed robbery and prevents Gasback from killing the traitors, allowing them to escape with the stolen money.

Two decades later, Gasback systematically robs his former partners before targeting Cain, who has used his share of the money to build Macca City. The enormous bounty on Gasback draws hundreds of hunters there in anticipation of his attack.

Amelia is revealed to be Gasback's daughter, born after he left her mother to continue his criminal life. Their confrontation forces Gasback to face consequences that cannot be reduced to money or revenge. Amelia ultimately refuses to kill him, and Gasback is arrested after the robbery fails.

Amelia Ann McFly hunts Gasback with intense personal hatred. She is his daughter, born after he abandoned her mother, and the suffering of their family becomes the personal cost of his outlaw life.

Vash the Stampede prevents Gasback from killing his treacherous partners during the original robbery and confronts him again twenty years later.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood briefly accepts work protecting Gasback before becoming involved in stopping the Macca City robbery.

Cain is one of Gasback's former accomplices and the principal target of his attack on Macca City.
