Fletcher Tringham

Fletcher is kind, cautious and troubled by dishonesty. He follows Russell into the scheme of impersonating the Elric brothers but never shares his older brother's enthusiasm for the deception.

He is also more attentive to the human cost of their research. As people around Xenotime become sick from exposure to Red Water, Fletcher increasingly questions whether completing their father's work can justify the damage being done.

His temperament closely complements Alphonse's. Both younger brothers are more willing to talk through disagreements than their hotheaded older siblings, and their friendship becomes instrumental in ending the conflict between the two pairs.

Fletcher is an alchemist specializing in transmutations involving plant life. He and Russell can manipulate vegetation, causing plants to grow rapidly and shaping them for practical purposes.

His plant alchemy becomes particularly useful for dealing with contaminated environments. Fletcher discovers that certain plants can absorb or help neutralize pollutants associated with the Red Water affecting Xenotime.

He lacks the combat orientation of Edward or Russell and generally uses his alchemy to assist, protect or alter the environment rather than to overpower opponents.

Fletcher travels to Xenotime with Russell to continue the research of their father, Nash Tringham. The brothers pose as Edward and Alphonse Elric so that their supposed status as State Alchemists will give them access to Mugear's resources.

Fletcher becomes friends with the real Alphonse while Edward and Russell repeatedly clash. He admits his discomfort with their deception and with the Red Water's effects, helping Alphonse understand why the brothers came to Xenotime.

After Mugear's operation collapses, Fletcher and Russell remain in Xenotime and use plant alchemy to help restore the damaged environment. Near the end of the series, they return to Central, where their knowledge helps Edward learn about the underground city beneath the capital and Dante's activities there.

Russell Tringham is Fletcher's older brother. Fletcher loves and follows him but is willing to challenge Russell when his obsession with completing their father's research becomes harmful.

Nash Tringham is Fletcher's father. His unfinished Red Stone research brings both sons to Xenotime and casts a long shadow over their choices.

Alphonse Elric quickly becomes Fletcher's friend. Their mutual patience helps de-escalate the hostility between Edward and Russell.

Edward Elric initially confronts Fletcher as one of the impostors using the Elric name, but the two eventually become allies.

Mugear employs the Tringham brothers because their research can produce the Red Stones he needs for artificial gold.

Belsio is an old friend of Nash who helps the brothers understand the consequences of their father's work and the damage Red Water has caused Xenotime.
