Charon

Charon is boisterous, confident and intensely dedicated to his responsibilities. He frequently speaks in rapid strings of questions and loudly narrates his reactions, creating a distinctive rhythm even during serious battles.

His loyalty to Haumea is extraordinary. He tolerates her insults and abuse without abandoning his duty, cooks for her, watches over her and worries about her behavior in ways resembling an exasperated parent as much as a bodyguard.

Charon is also capable of recognizing qualities in his enemies. His battles with Shinra Kusakabe demonstrate that he respects determination and understands the responsibility carried by someone protecting a Pillar.

Charon is a Second Generation pyrokinetic with an unusual counterattack-based Ignition Ability. He absorbs kinetic energy from impacts directed at his body, converts that energy into heat and releases it as enormously powerful explosions or shockwaves.

His techniques include Walk, Clap, Snap and Stamp, each using physical movement to release accumulated energy. The greater the punishment he survives, the more destructive his retaliation can become.

Charon possesses extraordinary physical strength and durability independent of his pyrokinesis. He is an expert close-quarters fighter capable of overpowering other pyrokinetics through punches, kicks, grappling and sheer resilience.

His ability has a practical limitation: he cannot absorb and release energy simultaneously. Skilled opponents can exploit the brief transition between those states, although doing so against his speed and durability is extremely difficult.

Charon accompanies Haumea during White-Clad operations and functions as the physical shield protecting one of the Evangelist's essential Pillars. Twelve years before the main story, he is already serving beside her during the operation involving the Kusakabe family.

He becomes a major opponent during the White-Clad's pursuit of Inca Kasugatani. Shinra fights Charon while trying to prevent Inca from falling into the Evangelist's hands, revealing the enormous gap between Charon and ordinary combatants.

During the Haijima conflict, Charon recognizes the importance of Nataku Son and demonstrates the scale of his ability by countering the catastrophic attack produced by the frightened Pillar.

Charon later protects Haumea during the final stages of the Evangelist's plan. His commitment ultimately extends beyond organizational loyalty: he understands the torment Haumea has endured from hearing humanity's collective thoughts and continues shielding her even at the cost of himself.

Haumea is the Second Pillar Charon has guarded since childhood. Their relationship combines formal guardian duty with an unmistakably parental attachment. Charon recognizes how deeply her Adolla ability has damaged her psychologically and continues caring for her despite her abuse of him.

Shinra Kusakabe becomes one of Charon's principal opponents during the struggle over Inca Kasugatani. Charon respects Shinra's determination while preventing him from interfering with the White-Clad's mission.

Inca Kasugatani is a Pillar whom Charon and Haumea seek to secure for the Evangelist.

Nataku Son is another Pillar whom Charon protects when his Adolla Burst becomes dangerously unstable.

The Evangelist is the leader Charon reveres and whose goal he has committed himself to fulfilling.

Ogun Montgomery later becomes one of Charon's significant combat opponents during the wider conflict with the White-Clad.
