Cain

Cain is shy about his painful past but hot-tempered when challenged. He dislikes retreating from hostile Humans and wants strength quickly enough to answer persecution directly.

His impatience conflicts with Koga’s careful teaching. Cain mistakes summoning a Doll for proof that he is ready to control one.

Cain possesses the spiritual perception and longevity of a young Bount. His Doll, Waineton, initially resembles a small green seed or bean before taking the form of a giant mantis.

A Bount must establish sufficient strength and control to master a newly summoned Doll. Cain attempts this prematurely, leaving Waineton free to attack and test him.

Kariya entrusts Cain to Koga, who trains the boy and tries to teach him patience. Cain becomes attached to his guardian but secretly performs the Doll-summoning ritual before Koga considers him prepared.

Waineton refuses to submit and attacks Cain. The resulting blast destroys the Doll and mortally wounds the boy, who dies despite Koga’s efforts. Koga carries guilt over the failure for centuries.

Gou Koga is Cain’s teacher, guardian and surrogate father figure. Jin Kariya originally places Cain in Koga’s care.

Waineton is Cain’s Doll, whose premature summoning causes both of their deaths.
