Bruno Bangnyfe

Bruno is hot-tempered, confrontational and intensely serious about Wing Bind's responsibility to protect London. He becomes furious when a Dark Dragon enters Reverse London for the first time in nearly a century and is openly irritated that several of his fellow Top of Horns directors appear less concerned by the breach.

His aggression does not amount to simple recklessness. Bruno can manipulate circumstances to achieve an objective and is willing to exploit people and Dragons when he believes doing so serves Wing Bind's interests. He also adapts when new information changes the strategic value of a target rather than stubbornly pursuing an obsolete decision.

Bruno is particularly dismissive toward lower-ranking Wing Bind personnel who challenge him. His exchanges with Ninny are openly antagonistic, and he has little hesitation about using force against fellow agents when they interfere with his plans.

Bruno is an accomplished wizard and combatant capable of personally engaging dangerous Dragons. He uses Wing Bind magic offensively and can fire powerful magical blasts capable of overwhelming other witches.

He commands Rickenbacker, a large Dragon used as a mount, giving him considerable aerial mobility. Bruno also employs a skeletal lower-face mask when performing certain magic and demonstrates the ability to summon or direct powerful magical effects in combat.

As director of the Inks, Bruno holds authority over a division centered on magical techniques and is experienced enough to command operations personally rather than remaining at headquarters.

Bruno enters the central conflict after Balgo's presence draws a Dark Dragon into Reverse London. Outraged by the security failure, he pushes the Top of Horns toward treating Balgo as a threat, and Wolfgang Slashhaut authorizes proceedings to eliminate him.

Bruno subsequently becomes involved with Macy Baljure and her illegally raised Dragon, Elly. He deliberately uses Macy and Elly as part of a plan to create circumstances in which Balgo can be eliminated, placing him directly against Noel and Ninny when they intervene.

The situation changes dramatically when Elly molts and is identified as Cinderella, one of the legendary Märchen. Bruno joins the battle against her, but the Dragon's power exceeds what he anticipated. Billy Banx Jr. ultimately destroys Cinderella with a distant shot.

After investigations connect Balgo's contact with Macy to Cinderella's appearance, Bruno reverses his earlier position. He submits a request to release Balgo from Punitive Dragon status because keeping him alive may help Wing Bind draw out the remaining Märchen.

Wolfgang Slashhaut is Bruno's fellow Top of Horns member and the director to whom he turns regarding the decision over Balgo. Bruno later brings Wolfgang the request to rescind Balgo's Punitive Dragon designation.

Balgo Parks initially draws Bruno's hostility because his Dragonclad condition attracts dangerous Dragons into Reverse London. Bruno later recognizes Balgo's potential strategic value in locating the Märchen and supports keeping him alive.

Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole oppose Bruno when his operation involving Macy threatens Balgo. Bruno treats the two Pipers as subordinates and does not hesitate to attack them when they interfere.

Macy Baljure is manipulated by Bruno as part of his attempt to deal with Balgo, though the emergence of her Dragon's true nature causes his plan to collapse.

Billy Banx Jr. is a fellow Wing Bind wizard whose actions ultimately resolve the Cinderella crisis in a way Bruno cannot.

Rickenbacker is Bruno's Dragon partner and mount, accompanying him into combat.
