Bostalk Hakushaku

Bostalk is wealthy, forceful and accustomed to having substantial power over the people around him. His reputation as the "Grim Reaper" reflects a history far harsher than his position as a prosperous landowner initially suggests.

He is nevertheless concerned for Stefany Bostok when she is taken hostage. The danger to his daughter forces him to deal directly with Ingway rather than relying entirely on money or hired protection.

Bostalk is an ordinary human, but he is experienced enough with firearms to participate in a direct gun duel when Ingway demands one.

His principal power is economic and social. He controls considerable wealth and property and can employ armed men, advantages that have helped establish his position in the region.

The confrontation with Ingway strips those advantages away and reduces their dispute to a face-to-face reckoning.

Bostalk is the target behind Stefany's kidnapping. Ingway initially demands ransom and transportation, but the hostage crisis eventually reveals a history connecting the two men.

Bostalk and his associates took fertile land developed by settlers and killed the people living there, including Ingway's parents. Ingway therefore kidnaps Stefany primarily to force Bostalk into a duel and avenge his family.

The Trigun pilot has Ingway kill Bostalk. The 1998 anime changes the outcome: Ingway deliberately shoots him nonfatally in the shoulder, allowing the confrontation to end without the revenge killing Vash fears.

Stefany Bostok is Bostalk's daughter, whose kidnapping forces him to respond to Ingway.

Ingway is Bostalk's principal adversary. Ingway seeks revenge because Bostalk's group killed his parents and seized the settlers' land.

Vash the Stampede becomes involved in the hostage crisis and attempts to prevent Ingway's grievance from ending in another death.
