Personality
Personality
Bobasa is cheerful, gluttonous and easily distracted by food. He repeatedly asks Yugi's group to feed him, creating an intentionally absurd contrast with the increasingly dangerous events occurring around ancient Egypt.
He is generally friendly toward Yugi and his companions and does not display the aggression associated with many supernatural figures connected to the Millennium Items. His behavior makes him seem harmless, although his knowledge occasionally reveals that he understands far more about the Memory World than his companions initially realize.
Bobasa's appetite also has a practical purpose within the Memory World. Feeding him becomes necessary for Yugi's group to obtain his assistance, turning his comic fixation on food into part of their progression through the ancient world.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Bobasa possesses unusual supernatural properties associated with the Memory World. His body can expand as he consumes food, and satisfying his enormous appetite allows him to perform the function for which he accompanies Yugi's group.
He has knowledge of locations and mechanisms that the modern visitors cannot discover easily on their own. Most importantly, he can transport Yugi and his friends to the Pharaoh's tomb after they have provided him with enough food.
The manga presents Bobasa differently from the anime. In the manga, Bobasa is connected directly to Shadi and the guardianship of the Millennium Items, carrying the Millennium Scales and Millennium Key within his unusual body.
Story Role
Story Role
Bobasa joins Yugi, Katsuya Jonouchi, Anzu Mazaki, and Hiroto Honda during their journey through the Pharaoh's Memory World. His repeated requests for food initially make him appear to be an eccentric companion rather than an important part of their mission.
The group eventually needs to locate the Pharaoh's tomb in their search for his lost name. Bobasa explains that he can grant their wish once they completely satisfy his hunger.
After being fed enough food, Bobasa transforms and carries Yugi's group to the Pharaoh's tomb, giving them access to the location where the Pharaoh's true name can be discovered. He disappears after fulfilling this purpose.
Relationships
Relationships
Yugi Mutou encounters Bobasa while exploring the Memory World and eventually depends upon him to reach the Pharaoh's tomb.
Katsuya Jonouchi, Anzu Mazaki, and Hiroto Honda accompany Yugi Mutou during their interactions with Bobasa and help satisfy his enormous appetite.
Shadi has a deeper connection to Bobasa in the manga. [Bobasa is presented there as one of the forms associated with Shadi, rather than simply the unusual guide used in the anime's Memory World.](#spoiler)
