Bazuso

Bazuso is loud, aggressive and extremely confident in his reputation. He openly taunts reluctant opponents and expects his size and record to intimidate challengers before combat begins.

His arrogance is backed by genuine ability. Bazuso is not merely boasting when he presents himself as a dangerous fighter; his enormous weapon, armor and history demonstrate that he has survived many battles.

His confidence falters when Guts proves capable of overcoming him, revealing that Bazuso's bravado is not the same as fearlessness in the face of defeat.

Bazuso possesses exceptional physical strength. He can fight effectively in extremely heavy plate armor while swinging a huge two-handed axe capable of devastating blows.

His reputation includes killing numerous opponents and reportedly defeating a bear, earning him widespread recognition among mercenaries and soldiers.

He has no supernatural powers. His size, strength, armor and battlefield experience account for his combat effectiveness.

Bazuso appears at the beginning of the Golden Age material as an enemy champion during a castle siege. Other soldiers hesitate to challenge him because of his reputation.

A young Guts accepts the challenge for payment. The duel initially demonstrates Bazuso's considerable power, but Guts's speed, strength and enormous sword allow him to overcome the veteran.

Guts mortally wounds Bazuso and finishes him after the defeated warrior attempts to yield. The victory earns Guts considerable money and further establishes his reputation as a wandering mercenary.

Guts is Bazuso's final opponent. Their duel establishes Guts's ability to defeat a renowned adult warrior despite his youth.

Griffith has no direct relationship with Bazuso, but money Guts earns from the battle is stolen shortly before his first major encounter with Griffith's Band of the Hawk.
