Atou

Atou is professional and comparatively composed, carrying out her duties within the unusual standards of an institution that trains professional assassins. She does not receive the extensive individual characterization given to the candidates, but her conduct establishes her as an experienced member of the examination staff.

She follows Usami's direction as the exam changes and remains involved after circumstances become dangerous. The manga does not establish a detailed personal history, hobbies or private motivations for her.

Atou is an examiner at JCC, an elite training institution for assassins. She therefore operates in an environment where instructors and examiners are expected to survive and control situations involving heavily armed, highly capable candidates.

During the third stage, the examiners themselves function as obstacles in the survival test. Candidates can gain points through interactions and confrontations with them, meaning Atou's role is more physically demanding than simply observing from outside the field.

When the test is compromised, Atou participates in the examiners' response. No named signature technique or extensive personal arsenal is established for her, so her abilities should not be extrapolated beyond what her JCC position and actions demonstrate.

Atou appears during the JCC Transfer Exam Arc alongside Usami and fellow examiner Noro. The exam brings together candidates including Shin Asakura, Akira Akao, Mafuyu Seba and a disguised Taro Sakamoto.

The third examination places the candidates in a survival environment where points determine who advances. Atou and the other examiners are incorporated into the test rather than remaining passive observers.

The examination is disrupted when Gaku remotely controls Shinaya and uses his body to attack the candidates and examiners. Atou becomes caught in the resulting confrontation, after which Usami concludes that the planned examination can no longer continue safely.

Usami is Atou's head examiner and supervises the JCC transfer examination in which she works.

Noro is a fellow examiner assigned to the same transfer test.

Taro Sakamoto is one of the candidates whose performance Atou helps evaluate, although he enters the examination for reasons beyond simply becoming a student.

Shin Asakura is another candidate taking the examination under Atou and the other JCC officials.

Shinaya becomes a direct threat to the examination staff after Gaku takes remote control of his body.
