Akira Akao

Akira is shy, anxious, polite, and uncomfortable with violence. She frequently doubts herself and initially struggles to understand why someone with her disposition belongs in an institution devoted to training assassins.

She is exceptionally capable at domestic tasks, particularly sewing, and her gentle temperament makes her quick to help others. During the JCC examination, these qualities initially seem unrelated to assassination, yet her dexterity and precision repeatedly translate into useful practical skills.

Her demeanor changes dramatically when someone she cares about is threatened. Akira possesses a buried decisiveness that resembles Rion's, and strong emotion can push her past hesitation into extremely efficient action.

Akira has extraordinary natural reflexes and movement despite lacking the conventional combat experience of more seasoned JCC students. Her greatest talent is the ability to perceive a "path" toward killing a target.

The path manifests as an intuitive sequence of optimal movements. By following it, Akira can identify how to navigate obstacles and strike vulnerable points with extraordinary efficiency. Rion possessed the same ability and taught Akira about it.

Akira also has excellent fine-motor control. Her sewing skill becomes unexpectedly useful during the JCC examination, where she can improvise solutions under pressure.

Her principal limitation is psychological rather than physical. She dislikes hurting people, meaning her assassin instincts and personal values are frequently in conflict.

Akira enters during the JCC transfer examination and encounters Sakamoto, Shin, and Natsuki Seba. Her surname immediately connects her to an important part of Sakamoto's past.

She joins the search for the JCC database because she hopes it will provide information about Rion. Through Akira, the present-day JCC storyline becomes directly connected to the unresolved events surrounding Sakamoto and Nagumo's former classmate.

After learning more about Rion's fate, Akira leaves her companions to pursue Kei Uzuki. Her desire to avenge her aunt pushes her toward X's organization despite warnings from people more experienced than she is.

Her encounter with Uzuki complicates the revenge she expected to pursue, particularly after she confronts the bizarre connection between him and Rion.

Rion Akao is Akira's aunt and the person she admires most. Rion taught her about the lethal paths they can both perceive, and finding her becomes Akira's central motivation.

Taro Sakamoto knew Rion at the JCC and becomes one of Akira's allies during her search for answers.

Shin Asakura meets Akira during the JCC examination and works alongside her.

Natsuki Seba becomes part of the same temporary group investigating the JCC database.

Yoichi Nagumo was one of Rion's closest friends and therefore shares a personal connection to the mystery Akira is pursuing.

Kei Uzuki becomes the focus of Akira's search for revenge after she learns of his connection to Rion's death, although their eventual meeting reveals that the relationship between Uzuki and Rion was more complicated than she understood.
