Akitoshi Okazaki

Okazaki is obsessive, cowardly and dangerously overconfident once given a weapon. His interest in firearms and military imagery makes Gantz's arsenal immediately appealing to him.

He initially hides when the temple aliens become genuinely threatening, but successful attacks quickly inflate his confidence. He begins treating the targets cruelly rather than simply defending himself.

Okazaki also seeks approval from people he believes share his interests, attempting to engage Juzo Togo in conversation about firearms despite the sniper's lack of interest.

Okazaki has no supernatural abilities and is physically unfit. He does not wear a Gantz suit, leaving him without enhanced protection.

His familiarity with firearms as a hobby helps him understand the basic operation of the Gantz guns quickly. He manages to disable one of the temple aliens and then continues shooting it rather than immediately moving to safety.

His confidence with weapons greatly exceeds his actual combat judgment.

Okazaki enters the Buddhist Temple mission with the large group of newcomers. He eagerly takes a weapon but initially hides once the statues begin attacking.

After seeing Kurono fight effectively, Okazaki becomes more aggressive and successfully attacks a smaller target. The success convinces him that he is capable of handling much stronger enemies.

Okazaki charges the enormous Daibutsu after Kurono fails to stop it. The giant statue catches and eats him, ending his first mission almost immediately after his confidence peaks.

Musou Tokugawa initially receives Okazaki's attention because he claims to understand their strange circumstances.

Juzo Togo interests Okazaki because of his obvious familiarity with firearms, although Juzo Togo largely ignores him.

Kei Kurono's combat performance inspires Okazaki to become more aggressive against the temple targets.
