Yumeka Gotou

Yumeka is sarcastic, blunt and emotionally guarded. She often uses cutting remarks to create distance, particularly when conversations approach basketball or the people connected to the sport she abandoned.

Underneath that attitude is a highly competitive person whose feelings toward basketball are far more complicated than simple dislike. She had immense talent from childhood, and her relationship with effort, expectations and disappointment shapes the way she talks about players who continue chasing difficult goals.

Her exchanges with Chinatsu can therefore be unusually harsh. Yumeka understands exactly how seriously Chinatsu takes basketball and knows which words will affect her.

Yumeka is an exceptionally talented basketball player. During childhood, her natural ability was so impressive that Chinatsu regarded her as someone to chase, and the two imagined progressing through Eimei together.

Her talent remains evident even after an extended period away from organized basketball. She possesses strong scoring ability and competitive instincts, allowing her to make a substantial impact after returning to the sport.

Once she joins Saisho's basketball team, her presence contributes to the team's rapid improvement. Her renewed rivalry with Chinatsu eventually develops into a high-level contest between two players whose careers took very different paths.

Yumeka is first discussed as an important figure from Chinatsu's past. She and Chinatsu played together as children, but Yumeka left Eimei after middle school and quit basketball, leaving Chinatsu to pursue the dream they had once shared.

Her reappearance forces Chinatsu to confront unresolved feelings about the person who originally inspired her. Yumeka's dismissive attitude toward persistence also challenges Taiki Inomata, whose approach to sport is built around continuing despite being less naturally gifted than some opponents.

Yumeka eventually admits through her actions that she has not truly stopped caring about basketball and begins playing again for Saisho Senior High. Her return transforms Saisho into a much stronger team and sets up a direct confrontation with Eimei.

During the Winter Cup qualifiers, Yumeka and Chinatsu finally meet as opposing players in a major game. Eimei wins 74–69, after which Yumeka confronts the fact that she still loves basketball and asks Chinatsu to play with her again the following day.

Chinatsu Kano is Yumeka's childhood friend, former teammate and central basketball rival. Chinatsu once admired Yumeka's talent, while their eventual match against each other allows both to confront the unresolved feelings created when Yumeka quit.

Nagisa Funami is Yumeka's former Eimei teammate and later an opponent when Yumeka returns to basketball with Saisho.

Taiki Inomata meets Yumeka through Chinatsu and challenges the assumptions behind her cynical attitude toward continuing to pursue difficult goals.

Sosuke is Yumeka's boyfriend.
