Xuan Feng

Xuan Feng is cold, arrogant and deeply proud of intellectual warfare. He views the battlefield as a place where a superior strategist can manipulate enormous numbers of people through thought alone and takes pleasure in demonstrating that superiority.

He has particular contempt for commanders who depend on instinct or brute force. Even when unconventional tactics surprise him, his first reaction is often to judge them against his own conception of proper strategy.

His arrogance does not eliminate caution. Xuan Feng is willing to retreat when conditions turn unfavorable and rarely allows emotion to dictate his decisions, making conventional attempts to bait him unusually difficult.

Xuan Feng possesses virtually no notable martial strength, but his strategic ability is exceptional. His understanding of warfare is considered sufficient for a position at the highest levels of a state's military administration.

He employs smoke, sound signals, archers, chariots, hidden obstacles and coordinated troop movements to control enemy behavior. At Sanyou, these methods allow him to devastate Qin formations while keeping his own command structure protected.

His analytical ability also lets him reconstruct enemy positions from limited evidence. He can examine terrain and patterns of attack to infer the likely location of hidden headquarters.

Xuan Feng accompanies Po Lian after the former Zhao Great General takes command of Wei's defense at Sanyou. He initially controls the central battlefield and inflicts severe damage on Qin through carefully prepared traps.

When the Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou units penetrate his tactics, Xuan Feng withdraws rather than allowing himself to become trapped. His strategic reputation remains intact enough for Po Lian to later entrust him with another crucial section of the battle.

Xuan Feng takes command against Huan Yi and correctly identifies the location of Huan Yi's hidden headquarters. Huan Yi anticipates this response, disguises himself and several soldiers as Wei messengers, infiltrates Xuan Feng's headquarters and kills the elderly strategist.

Po Lian is Xuan Feng's former student and later commander. Xuan Feng helped teach him the principles of military strategy before becoming one of his Four Heavenly Kings.

Hu Lun is another of the Four Heavenly Kings and was also instructed in warfare by Xuan Feng.

Jie Zifang and Jiang Yan complete the group of Po Lian's Four Heavenly Kings.

Huan Yi becomes Xuan Feng's principal opponent during the later stages of Sanyou. Huan Yi defeats him through infiltration rather than a conventional strategic engagement.

Xin leads one of the units that penetrates Xuan Feng's battlefield traps during the Sanyou campaign.
