Tsuchiya

Tsuchiya is tough, straightforward and surprisingly caring toward younger delinquents. His reputation is not based solely on intimidation; people follow him because he looks after those around him.

He respects fighting ability and can accept defeat without allowing it to define every later interaction. This makes him capable of moving from rivalry to cooperation when circumstances change.

Tsuchiya also possesses a practical understanding of his own martial art. He knows that environment matters and that a technique effective on one surface can become dangerous or ineffective on another.

Tsuchiya is an experienced wrestler with strong takedowns, grappling ability and physical conditioning. Once he establishes control of an opponent's body, his wrestling background gives him substantial leverage.

Street conditions create a complicated tradeoff for him. Hard asphalt makes some wrestling exchanges dangerous for both participants and limits techniques that would be safer on mats.

On grass, dirt or sand, where he can commit more freely to takedowns and ground control, Tsuchiya can use a much larger portion of his wrestling skill.

Tsuchiya enters as another martial artist within the violent network surrounding Daizawa High and the Shimokitazawa street scene. His wrestling gives the story another opportunity to examine how a formal combat sport changes outside its intended environment.

He clashes with several major fighters rather than remaining tied to a single rivalry. After suffering defeats against fighters including Masaki, Yuu and Shougo, Tsuchiya does not remain their enemy and increasingly cooperates with the group.

His later presence reflects the way former opponents gradually form a loose community around the streets rather than remaining divided permanently by individual fights.

Shougo Midorikawa is Tsuchiya's junior from Daizawa High and another trained martial artist. The two eventually fight, with Shougo Midorikawa defeating Tsuchiya.

Yuu Kamishiro initially encounters Tsuchiya through street conflict. After their confrontation, Tsuchiya gradually becomes an ally rather than a continuing enemy.

Masaki Izawa is another elite street fighter Tsuchiya measures himself against and respects.
