Torgrim

Torgrim shares much of the rough, anti-Christian outlook common among Askeladd's Viking mercenaries. He is comfortable with raiding and violence and is far less ideologically committed to Askeladd than Bjorn.

His loyalty is strongest toward Atli. The brothers operate together through the dangerous collapse of their mercenary company, and Atli later takes responsibility for Torgrim when his mental state deteriorates.

Torgrim's confidence proves dependent on operating within the familiar scale of ordinary Viking warfare. Exposure to Thorkell's overwhelming violence shatters that sense of normality.

Torgrim is an experienced Viking warrior familiar with armed raids, formation fighting, marching, and battlefield survival.

His large build suggests considerable physical strength, but the manga does not establish a distinctive martial art, named technique, or feat placing him among the series' elite warriors.

His experience is nevertheless sufficient for him to survive years in Askeladd's exceptionally violent mercenary company.

Torgrim travels with Askeladd during the escort of Canute across England as Thorkell's army closes in.

As circumstances worsen, Torgrim and many other mercenaries lose confidence in their captain and decide their chances of survival are better if they abandon Askeladd and submit to Thorkell.

The resulting confrontation becomes catastrophic. Bjorn's berserker rampage and Thorkell's arrival reduce what had been an organized mutiny to chaos.

Torgrim survives physically, but seeing Thorkell's monstrous combat ability causes a severe psychological breakdown. Atli eventually removes him from the battlefield and cares for him afterward.

Atli is Torgrim's younger brother and the person who remains responsible for him after his psychological collapse.

Askeladd commands Torgrim for years before Torgrim joins the faction that turns against him.

Thorkell becomes the warrior whose overwhelming violence traumatizes Torgrim.

Bjorn remains loyal to Askeladd and fights the defecting mercenaries during their uprising.

Canute is the royal hostage whose possession contributes to the crisis surrounding Askeladd's band.
