Togo Shiba

Shiba is easygoing, sociable, and fond of teasing people, creating an impression far removed from his reputation as a veteran combat sorcerer. He frequently acts as the conversational counterweight to Chihiro's seriousness and can remain relaxed even when dealing with dangerous criminals.

That casual manner disappears when someone threatens the people under his protection. Shiba is capable of brutal interrogation and overwhelming violence against enemy sorcerers, particularly when information is needed to protect Chihiro or Char. He has enough confidence in his own strength that he rarely appears intimidated by conventional opponents.

Shiba also carries guilt over Chihiro's path. He supports Kunishige's son because abandoning him would be unthinkable, yet he questions whether a responsible adult should have allowed a traumatized teenager to dedicate his life to revenge. His loyalty therefore includes an awareness that helping Chihiro and protecting him are not always the same thing.

Shiba is one of the most experienced sorcerers in the series. His primary sorcery, Itazura, allows instantaneous teleportation across substantial distances. He can teleport himself, transport other people through physical contact, rapidly reposition during combat, and appear above opponents before using gravity and momentum to amplify his attacks.

His fighting style combines teleportation with exceptional close-quarters ability. Shiba can repeatedly change angles faster than an opponent can react, launch enemies into the air, and teleport them into disadvantageous positions. His mastery of spirit-energy reinforcement makes his ordinary physical attacks dangerous even without a separate offensive sorcery.

His reputation extends back to the Seitei War. Later accounts of the war establish Shiba as one of the government sorcerers who fought during the conflict alongside figures such as Kunishige and the Enchanted Blade wielders, giving him direct knowledge of events deliberately concealed from the public.

Shiba has known Kunishige since before Chihiro's revenge journey and visits the isolated Rokuhira household while Chihiro is still training as a swordsmith. His familiarity with the family makes him one of the few outsiders trusted with their location and Kunishige's work.

After the Hishaku murder Kunishige and steal the Enchanted Blades, Shiba helps the surviving Chihiro pursue the organization. Three years later, the two investigate criminal sorcerers across Japan while searching for information about the stolen weapons.

Shiba becomes instrumental during the Rakuzaichi conflict, accompanying Chihiro and Hakuri in their attempt to dismantle the Sazanami Clan's auction. He fights members of the Tou while helping Hakuri develop the spirit-energy control necessary to understand his own abilities.

As the truth surrounding the Seitei War becomes increasingly important, Shiba's own participation in the conflict places him among the surviving people capable of explaining what actually happened and why Kunishige created the Enchanted Blades.

Kunishige Rokuhira is Shiba's longtime friend and former comrade. Their relationship predates the main story and is rooted partly in their shared experiences surrounding government sorcerers and the Seitei War.

Chihiro Rokuhira is Shiba's closest present-day partner. Shiba helps him pursue the Hishaku while also acting as an experienced guardian, investigator, and source of knowledge about the sorcerer world.

Hakuri Sazanami receives important instruction from Shiba during the campaign against the Rakuzaichi. Shiba recognizes that Hakuri's apparent inability to use Isou may reflect improper spirit-energy distribution rather than simple weakness.

Char Kyonagi becomes someone Shiba helps protect after she is targeted by Sojo's organization.

Soshiro Azami is Shiba's former Kamunabi associate and another longtime acquaintance connected to Kunishige.

Genichi Sojo becomes one of Shiba and Chihiro's primary early enemies after targeting Char and wielding Cloud Gouger.
