Personality
Personality
Chihiro is reserved, serious, and unusually composed in dangerous situations. His pursuit of the Hishaku is fueled by anger, but he does not indiscriminately direct that anger toward everyone involved in the criminal world. He repeatedly places civilians and vulnerable people ahead of the easiest path toward his targets, even when doing so complicates his mission.
Much of that restraint comes from Kunishige's influence. Chihiro grew up watching his father treat swordsmithing as a responsibility rather than simply the production of powerful weapons. Although Chihiro can appear cold to strangers, his actions reveal a compassionate streak, particularly around children such as Char Kyonagi and people being exploited by criminals.
Chihiro is also highly observant. He studies opponents, weapons, and fighting techniques during battle and is willing to revise his approach almost immediately when he recognizes a weakness. That aptitude eventually extends beyond Enten itself, allowing him to absorb swordsmanship principles from watching far more experienced fighters.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Chihiro is a skilled swordsman and sorcerer whose primary weapon is Enten, the seventh Enchanted Blade created by Kunishige. Like the other Enchanted Blades, Enten amplifies its wielder's spirit energy beyond what the human body can normally contain. Its energy manifests as three goldfish, each corresponding to a different ability.
Kuro, represented by the black goldfish, releases ranged slashes of spirit energy. Chihiro later develops Kuro: Shred, dividing the attack into numerous smaller slashes that reduce the physical movement required from his injured body. Aka, represented by the red goldfish, absorbs attacks that come into contact with Enten and allows Chihiro to reproduce aspects of what was absorbed. Nishiki, represented by the multicolored goldfish, cloaks Chihiro in dense spirit energy and greatly increases the power, speed, and agility of his physical movements. As Chihiro's understanding of Enten deepens, he learns to use Nishiki to support damaged movements rather than simply amplify them, allowing him to continue fighting through severe injuries.
Chihiro's exceptional observational ability also makes him an unusually fast learner. After recognizing shortcomings in his largely self-developed swordsmanship, he reproduces the Iai White Purity Style by drawing on what he has observed from Seiichi Samura and Yoji Uruha. The style centers on explosive spirit-energy acceleration and an unconventional reverse-grip draw and regrip designed to achieve extreme speed. He subsequently refines his use of it by observing Iori Samura's movements.
Story Role
Story Role
Chihiro grows up in seclusion with Kunishige, intending to follow his father into swordsmithing. Their home also conceals the Enchanted Blades Kunishige forged using Datenseki during the Seitei War. The Hishaku eventually locate the Rokuhira home, murder Kunishige, and steal the six Enchanted Blades kept there. Chihiro survives and begins hunting the organization with Enten, the hidden seventh blade.
His pursuit brings him into conflict with Genichi Sojo, an underworld arms dealer who obtains the Enchanted Blade Cloud Gouger. Their opposing interpretations of Kunishige's legacy become intensely personal: Chihiro remembers a father who believed blades should protect people, while Sojo reveres Kunishige as the creator of weapons capable of extraordinary destruction. Chihiro ultimately defeats Sojo and later uses the remaining fragment of Cloud Gouger during the Rakuzaichi operation.
The Rakuzaichi draws Chihiro into an alliance with Hakuri Sazanami, whose family has operated the underground auction for generations. Together with Shiba, they target the auction and its human trafficking operation while attempting to recover the Shinuchi. Hakuri awakens his own Storehouse and becomes indispensable to Chihiro's effort to evacuate the auction's prisoners, while Chihiro battles Kyora Sazanami inside the inherited Sazanami Storehouse.
The conflict surrounding the Enchanted Blade wielders later forces Chihiro to confront previously hidden truths about the Seitei War, his father's weapons, and the people celebrated as its heroes. His objective consequently evolves beyond simply recovering Kunishige's creations: Chihiro resolves to use Enten to destroy the other Enchanted Blades, including Shinuchi, and prevent their destructive legacy from continuing.
Relationships
Relationships
Kunishige Rokuhira is Chihiro's father, teacher, and the person who most strongly shapes his values. Chihiro apprentices under him as a swordsmith and inherits his belief that a sword's creation carries responsibility for how it is used. Kunishige's murder becomes the immediate catalyst for Chihiro's pursuit of the Hishaku and the stolen Enchanted Blades.
Shiba is an old friend of Kunishige Rokuhira and Chihiro's closest adult ally. He knew Chihiro while the boy was growing up and later accompanies him in his pursuit of the Hishaku, contributing his formidable teleportation sorcery, intelligence network, and experience.
Hakuri Sazanami becomes one of Chihiro's closest companions after Chihiro saves him. Hakuri's determination to end the Rakuzaichi aligns with Chihiro's refusal to tolerate the exploitation of innocent people. Their abilities become particularly effective together, with Hakuri's Storehouse allowing him to transport people and objects Chihiro marks with his spirit energy.
Char Kyonagi is a young girl Chihiro protects after learning that criminals are pursuing her. His initially awkward manner around her develops into a protective bond, and rescuing her from Genichi Sojo becomes one of his most urgent priorities.
Hinao provides Chihiro and his allies with information and a place from which to operate. Chihiro trusts her enough to involve her in protecting Char despite the dangers surrounding his investigation.
Genichi Sojo is Chihiro's first major Enchanted Blade-wielding enemy. Both admire Kunishige Rokuhira, but they understand his legacy in fundamentally different ways, turning their battles into a conflict over what Kunishige and his swords represented.
Seiichi Samura is one of the veteran Enchanted Blade wielders Chihiro initially seeks to protect. Chihiro studies his extraordinary swordsmanship and later adopts the Iai White Purity Style associated with him. Their relationship becomes adversarial when Samura's own plan for dealing with the legacy of the Seitei War places him in direct conflict with Chihiro.
Yoji Uruha is another Enchanted Blade wielder whose swordsmanship provides Chihiro with an example of the Iai White Purity Style. Chihiro participates in the effort to protect him from the Hishaku.
Iori Samura provides Chihiro with another crucial model for understanding the Iai White Purity Style. Watching her instinctive swordsmanship helps Chihiro clarify aspects of the technique that he had struggled to reproduce correctly.
