Tanaka is careless, inattentive, and easily intimidated by authority. When Natsuki warns that the kidnapping team has seized the wrong person, Tanaka ignores the concern rather than checking carefully.

His attitude changes immediately once he realizes the mistake could anger their superior. Instead of admitting what happened, he agrees to participate in a cover story intended to hide the failure.

Tanaka is therefore less ideologically committed than major members of X's organization. Fear of punishment and convenience appear to motivate him more strongly than belief in a larger cause.

No distinctive combat technique, weapon specialty, or superhuman ability is established for Tanaka.

He operates as part of the group occupying Okutabi Laboratory and therefore has enough familiarity with kidnapping and covert criminal work to participate in an organized abduction.

His most consequential limitation is poor attention to detail. Failing to verify the identity of a kidnapped target undermines the operation before Sakamoto's group even begins actively fighting back.

Tanaka appears during the Lab Arc as one of the operatives involved in capturing people for the group occupying Okutabi Laboratory.

Natsuki realizes that the kidnappers have taken the wrong person, but Tanaka initially dismisses the warning.

Once the mistake becomes undeniable, Tanaka panics at the possibility of punishment and goes along with Natsuki's plan to conceal the error.

The botched operation ultimately contributes to Shin and the others reaching the laboratory and confronting both the criminals occupying it and the history surrounding Shin's psychic powers.

Later material shows Tanaka having left that line of work and earning a living selling crepes.

Natsuki Seba works alongside Tanaka during the kidnapping operation and is the first to recognize that they captured the wrong person.

Shin Asakura becomes indirectly connected to Tanaka through the botched kidnapping and the return to Okutabi Laboratory.

Shaotang Lu becomes part of the attempt to conceal the kidnapping team's mistake.
