Personality
Personality
The manifested Suzumebachi is excitable, vain and outspoken. She complains about Suì-Fēng’s austere clothing, professes a dislike of men and initially celebrates her independence from a wielder she considers dull.
Her complaints conceal a strong similarity to Suì-Fēng. Both are proud, quick to take offense and intensely focused on proving their superiority. Suzumebachi is simply less restrained in expressing those traits.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
In Shikai, Suzumebachi becomes a black-and-gold finger guard with a needle extending from Suì-Fēng’s middle finger. A successful strike leaves a butterfly-shaped mark called a Hōmonka. A second stab at the same point activates Nigeki Kessatsu and kills the target.
Suì-Fēng can cover her entire body with countless Hōmonka when using the technique against an opponent who engulfs her. The death effect is powerful but can be overcome if the target’s spiritual pressure vastly exceeds hers.
Bankai transforms the compact stinger into Jakuhō Raikōben, an enormous guided missile and launcher. Its explosive force conflicts with the stealth expected of the Onmitsukidō, and its recoil normally requires Suì-Fēng to anchor herself.
Story Role
Story Role
Suì-Fēng first reveals Suzumebachi while confronting Yoruichi Shihōin during the Ryoka invasion. Its Shikai later becomes central to her battle with Baraggan Louisenbairn.
During the anime-only Zanpakutō Rebellion, Muramasa separates Suzumebachi from Suì-Fēng. The spirit initially refuses to believe that the severe captain is her master, forcing Suì-Fēng to demonstrate how closely their abilities and dispositions are connected.
Relationships
Relationships
Suì-Fēng is Suzumebachi’s wielder and spiritual counterpart. Their outward personalities differ, but both are proud, exacting and devoted to swift victory.
Muramasa manipulates Suzumebachi into joining the rebellion. Yoruichi Shihōin and Baraggan Louisenbairn are major opponents against whom Suì-Fēng uses the Zanpakutō.
