Suigetsu Houzuki

Suigetsu is sarcastic, independent, provocative, and openly interested in violence. He frequently challenges his companions verbally and rarely bothers hiding his opinions.

His most consistent conflict is with Karin. The two trade insults constantly, with Suigetsu mocking Karin's feelings for Sasuke while Karin criticizes his behavior and competence.

Despite claiming to dislike being ordered around, Suigetsu repeatedly follows Sasuke into dangerous situations. He gradually demonstrates greater loyalty to Taka than his early opportunism suggests.

His ambition to collect the Seven Swordsmen's weapons reflects genuine respect for Kirigakure's sword tradition. Mangetsu's reputation casts a particularly long shadow over Suigetsu's own aspirations.

As a member of the Hōzuki clan, Suigetsu uses the Hydrification Technique, transforming his body into water. Physical blows and many conventional weapons can pass through his liquefied form without inflicting normal injuries.

He can reshape water within his body to increase particular muscles dramatically, giving him enough strength to handle oversized weapons such as Kubikiribōchō.

Hydrification comes with an important weakness: Lightning Release can interfere with his liquefied state and immobilize him. Suigetsu also needs regular hydration and carries bottles of water with him.

He is an accomplished swordsman and becomes the wielder of Kubikiribōchō, the enormous executioner's blade formerly associated with Zabuza Momochi.

Suigetsu can also merge with sufficiently large bodies of water, dramatically increasing his size and physical power. This allows him to confront enemies far larger and stronger than himself for short periods.

Suigetsu is the first person Sasuke recruits after leaving Orochimaru. Sasuke frees him from a containment tank and accompanies him to the Land of Waves, where Suigetsu retrieves Kubikiribōchō from Zabuza's grave.

He subsequently helps recruit Karin and Jugo, forming Hebi. Although Suigetsu is initially interested mainly in his own sword-collecting ambition, he agrees to assist Sasuke's pursuit of Itachi.

After Hebi becomes Taka, Suigetsu participates in Akatsuki-related operations and the team's confrontation with Killer B. His liquid body proves valuable against the jinchūriki's overwhelming physical attacks.

During the battle with Killer B, Suigetsu uses a gigantic water form to hold back the fully transformed Eight-Tails long enough for his teammates to escape, sustaining severe damage in the process.

He later accompanies Taka during the turbulent events surrounding the Five Kage Summit, though circumstances separate the group's members.

Suigetsu and Jugo later discover one of Orochimaru's research scrolls, which contributes to Sasuke's decision to seek answers from the previous Hokage. They subsequently rejoin Sasuke and participate in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Sasuke Uchiha frees Suigetsu and becomes the leader of Hebi and Taka. Suigetsu frequently complains about Sasuke Uchiha's decisions but repeatedly risks himself for the team.

Karin has a combative relationship with Suigetsu. Karin and Suigetsu insult one another constantly, though their arguments eventually become part of Taka's familiar group dynamic.

Jugo is Suigetsu's teammate in Hebi and Taka. Suigetsu initially approaches Jugo cautiously because of his violent transformations but comes to rely on him.

Mangetsu Houzuki is Suigetsu's older brother and a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. Mangetsu Houzuki's mastery of the seven blades informs Suigetsu's ambition to collect them.

Zabuza Momochi is the previous famous wielder of Kubikiribōchō. Suigetsu takes possession of Zabuza Momochi's sword after being released from captivity.

Kisame Hoshigaki represents another generation of the Seven Swordsmen and knows of the Hōzuki brothers' reputation.
